Manchester United expect to land Crystal Palace starlet Wilfried Zaha for 12million by the end of this month's transfer window.
The Barclays Premier League leaders have held talks with Palace over a deal and although their initial valuation of the forward is lower than the Championship club's, they have been given enough encouragement to return to the negotiating table.
Palace have nominally placed a 20m price tag on the 20-year-old but know they will not get that much for him.
On the move: Zaha could seal his Old Trafford switch this month
No deal: City, Spurs and Arsenal aren't expected to bid for Zaha
As such, it is expected the deal, if it happens, will be 12m with some significant performance-related add-ons.
United are open to loaning Zaha back to Palace until the end of the season and Eagles boss Ian Holloway has hinted at that scenario.
He said: 'Am I confident he'll be here for Saturday's game Yeah. I'm very confident he'll be helping me for the rest of the season.'
International: Zaha's hot form earned him a call up to the England team
Close: Ferguson could welcome Zaha to Old Trafford by the end of the month
United are the only club currently in talks to sign Zaha. Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is not interested, Arsenal are confident of tying Theo Walcott to a new contract while Tottenham have not made an offer.
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has been keen on Zaha for some time, but has upped his interest in recent days after beginning to fear another club would beat him to the player, who made his international debut as a substitute in England's 4-2 friendly defeat by Sweden in Stockholm last November.
