Rooney set to miss Liverpool clash after failing to recover from knee and ankle knocks
Wayne Rooney is almost certainly out of Manchester United’s FA Cup grudge match with Liverpool.
Rooney has not trained at all this week after picking up knee and ankle knocks in last weekend’s win at Arsenal.
Doubt: Wayne Rooney is not likely to play against Liverpool
Under normal club policy, that would rule him out of contention to play in Saturday's highly charged fourth-round tie at Anfield, although it is not inconceivable that Sir Alex Ferguson could take a huge gamble on his 18-goal top scorer.
It means United could be without 11 first-team players for the clash. ‘It’s not the best situation for us,’ admitted Ferguson.
