Anita completes 6.7m Newcastle switch as Dutch midfielder passes medical

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Holland international Vurnon Anita after he successfully passed his medical.

Toon boss Alan Pardew has secured a 6.7million deal with Ajax for the 23-year-old midfielder-cum-defender who handed in a transfer request last month.

'We are delighted to secure the services of Vurnon,' said Pardew.

'He is an exceptionally talented footballer with great technical ability, which is exactly what I'm looking at in a player.

'And, at 23-years-old, we hope his best years are at Newcastle.

'He has come through the Ajax youth system which is world renowned for bringing up players the right way, and I am sure he will fit seamlessly into the squad of players we have here.

'Vurnon has done his pre-season, and indeed already played one competitive game, so he's up to speed and ready to play when I need him.'

Holding midfielder Anita can also play
at full-back but Pardew is still pursuing Lille's France international
defender Mathieu Debuchy who is in dispute with his club after they
blocked his 6million move to Newcastle. Inter Milan and Lazio are also
interested in the full-back.

Newcastle have already signed Romain Amalfitano, Curtis Good and Gael Bigirimana this summer.
