Redknapp goes for Samba after missing out on Cahill

Tottenham will consider a move for Blackburn Rovers defender Chris Samba when the transfer window opens next week.

Manager Harry Redknapp has seen primary defensive target Gary Cahill agree to join Chelsea from Bolton and wants a proven performer to bolster his injury ravaged defence.

The 27-year-old Samba is also on QPR’s list of potential targets but would prefer to join Tottenham with their Champions League chasing squad should they firm up interest.

Blackburn are looking to finance moves for Manchester City’s Nedum Onuoha and Fulham’s Andrew Johnson among others and while reluctant to lose a lynchpin such as Samba recognise a potential 10million sale could be too good to turn down.

Redknapp also wants a striker and is hopeful of recruiting a big name with Chelsea’s Didier Drogba among his potential targets. Drogba has been offered a deal to join Chinese champions Guangzhou Evergrande.
