Tottenham pulled clear of their north London rivals Arsenal in the race to secure Champions League football with a 2-1 win in a pulsating derby at White Hart Lane.

Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon capitalised on some poor defending from the visitors to give Spurs a commanding 2-0 lead at half-time.

Per Mertesacker hit back for Arsenal with a header early in the second half but Arsene Wenger's side couldn't force an equaliser.

Spurs moved seven points clear of their neighbours and leapfrogged Chelsea into third place in the Premier League.
