Rory McIlroy will spend part of his week before the Masters on a humanitarian mission in Haiti.

McIlroy says he will meet with children and their families April 1 and 2 to see how their lives have changed since the 2010 earthquake that ravaged the country. McIlroy also made a trip to Haiti before going to the U.S. Open in 2011. He won his first major at Congressional with a record score.

McIlroy is an Ireland ambassador to UNICEF and has geared his own charity work toward children.

The 23-year-old from Northern Ireland says he is excited to return. He calls Haiti an inspiring and humbling country where children face daily struggles. McIlroy says he hopes his presence can create international awareness of the plight Haitian children are facing.

It's safe to say that Diego Maradona is having a busy week.

Following the news of his fifth child being born last Thursday, the ex-Argentina World Cup winner was snapped alongside Caroline Wozniacki at the WTA Dubai Tennis Championships.

It looks hard to tell who was more excited, with the pair swapping a signed football shirt and tennis racket courtside.

With her boyfriend Rory McIlroy away in snowy Arizona at the moment, Maradona may have seen his chance to get a photo with the in-demand former World No.1.

He also couldn't keep his hands off American player Bethanie Mattek-Sands, who appeared delighted at the attention.

After a little peck on the hand, a strangely long-faced Maradona posed for another picture.

Maradona currently resides in Dubai as 'honorary sports ambassador', helping the state with media relations in all major international sports events.

He has said in the last week that he will only be able to see his new son, Diego Fernando, when his commercial obligations finish in June.

As for now, he seems to be enjoying the high-life in Dubai, and can't keep away from a photo opportunity with the good and the great from sport.

A resurgent Svetlana Kuznetsova stunned former world No 1 Caroline Wozniacki in an absorbing encounter on Rod Laver Arena to reach the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with a 6-2 2-6 7-5 victory on Monday.

The former U.S. and French Open champion, unseeded this year after an injury-disrupted 2012, prevailed in a highly competitive 75-minute third set and wrapped up her victory with a backhand volley at the net.

Kuznetsova saw her streak of 40

The 27-year-old Russian made 41
unforced errors but 52 winners were enough to claim a place in the last
eight for the third time in 12 appearances at Melbourne Park.

The 10th-seeded Danish player only hit 12 winners to 45 for Lisicki, but the big-hitting German also made 57 unforced errors to just eight for Wozniacki.

After a brutal first round loss at the hands of Jelena Jankovic last year, the teenager will be keen to prove herself in her tie with France's Benoit Paire.

It should be an evenly matched affair, with Paire ranked only one place below Robson, at 54th.

And the Brit can go into this year's tournament with confidence, having had a sensational 2012 that saw her named WTA Newcomer of the Year.

She reached the Olympic doubles final alongside Andy Murray and took home a silver medal, as well as reaching her first WTA final in Guangzhou.

Belarusian Victoria Azarenka is the reigning Australian Open champion after she thrashed Sharapova 6-3 6-0 in the final last year.

Pele was given a signed tennis shirt with a personal message from Federer, while in return he offered a signed 1960s-era blue Brazil shirt.

Rory McIlroy named PGA Tour Player of the Year

McIlroy named PGA Tour Player of the Year as awards keep rolling in for Northern Irishman

The awards just keep on coming in recognition of Rory McIlroy's remarkable season.

On Tuesday it was the turn of the pros he competes against on the US Tour as they acknowledged him as their Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old Northern Irishman became the youngest to win the award since Tiger Woods in 1998 and the second European in a row, following Luke Donald's success last season.

Among the other contenders were Woods himself, who won three times on tour, and Masters champion Bubba Watson.

'I feel very honoured, when you think of the names of the players who have won this award in the past,' said McIlroy. 'It's always nice to get recognition from your peers.'

The trophy goes alongside the Arnold Palmer award for the official US tour money winner and the /12/04/article-2242872-1634827E000005DC-146_468x317.jpg” width=”468″ height=”317″ alt=”Team game: McIlroy says girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki has been a big help” class=”blkBorder” />

McIlroy was in full agreement with his best golfing mate Graeme McDowell, who opined last week that he had seen a change in his friend over the last 18 months, and that he had become more focused and single-minded.

'I think after winning the US Open last year my career had clearly gone up a level and I needed to become a little more professional and business-like if I wanted to keep on winning trophies,' said McIlroy. 'Fortunately I have been able to do that.'

In a teleconference conducted while being driven along the freeways in Boston – we lost him at one point as he went through one of the city's many tunnels – he acknowledged that his tennis-playing girlfriend Caroline Wozniacki had also played her part.

'Seeing how hard she works, her practice and dedication, flipped a switch for me,' he said. 'It made me realise that I could be a bit more like that.'

McIlroy concluded by warning his peers that he has no plans to settle on his laurels in 2013.

'How can I follow up such a great season is a question I get asked all the time, but I think I can do it,' he said.

'I look at my game and think there are plenty of areas where I can improve, add a couple of shots, and show a bit more variety.

'If there was one disappointment this year it was that I had only one chance to win a major, and luckily I was able to pull it off.

'But next year the goal will be to give myself four good chances to win.'

And so we await what promises to be the next exciting instalment in Rory's era.
