Super League's reigning Man of Steel Rangi Chase has been suspended by his club after an apparent breach of club discipline.

Castleford's 26-year-old England international was dropped for last Sunday's 40-22 Stobart Super League defeat at Leeds.

Tigers coach Ian Millward refused to shed any light on the situation during the post-match press conference but the club announced they had begun an investigation.

In a statement the club said: 'Castleford Tigers can confirm that Rangi Chase has been suspended on full pay while the club investigates his actions last weekend.

'The club hope for the conclusion of this matter sooner rather than later and will not comment further on the situation at this stage so to not prejudice the case for either party.'

Chase, who has appeared in England's last six matches including an 18-10 win over the Exiles 10 days ago, has never been far from controversy.

He was dropped, along with Joe Westerman, by then Castleford coach Terry Matterson for a match at Huddersfield in April 2010 for a breach of discipline and was forced to return to Australia last August to attend a court case.

Chase caused a stir in October when he switched his allegiance from New Zealand to England and was called into Steve McNamara's team for the Four Nations Series.

He had played for the Maoris against England in 2010 and was man of the match for the Exiles in their 16-12 victory over England at Headingley last summer.

Chase, who last September signed a new contract tying him to the Tigers until the end of 2015, is currently the subject of much speculation over his future.

Warrington are thought to have had a big-money offer for him rejected and Huddersfield are also being linked with a move.

London Broncos 12 Hull FC 14: Tickle has last laugh for play-off chasing visitors

Danny Tickle's late penalty proved crucial as Hull FC edged out the London Broncos in a tight contest at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium.

Tickle's successful kick 12 minutes from time gave Hull an eight-point lead and London were unable to make up that gap despite going over for a converted try soon after.

Hull's victory, which also saw Tickle convert tries from Ben Crooks and Richard Whiting, helps the Black and Whites maintain their play-off push while the Broncos continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table after losing a match they could easily have won.

The hosts were missing Matt Cook after he picked up a knock in the Challenge Cup quarter-final defeat at Huddersfield last weekend.

The Broncos mixed things up by moving Dan Sarginson to stand-off, with Michael Witt switching to hooker and Omari Caro starting on the wing.

But there was better injury news for the visitors, with both Joe Westerman (shoulder) and Richard Horne (groin) returning among the replacements.

While Hull entered the game buoyed by their recent victory over Leeds, and with a top-eight finish pretty much in the bag, the Londoners found themselves in a scrap to avoid being cut adrift at the foot of the Super League table.

Rob Powell's men had just two wins to their name all season, and came up short when they took their last home game on the road, a disappointing loss to Bradford at Leyton Orient.

But they started the game on the front foot, with repeated sets in the Hull half finally seeing Kieran Dixon speed in at the corner inside the first 10 minutes.

Scrum-half Craig Gower was pulling all the strings, with the veteran's kicking game pinning Hull back.

The visitors were producing a very sloppy display, with handling errors to the fore.

But with the hosts failing to cash in their ascendancy, and Sarginson being forced to depart with a head injury, Hull struck back midway through the half with a try from Crooks after good work from Willie Manu.

Gower thought he had given London the lead again just before the break when he stretched over, only for referee Thierry Alibert to chalk it off for crossing.

The sloppiness continued after the interval, with handling errors stopping Hull gaining any momentum.

But it was Manu again that got them going, showing great strength to move the visitors to the line, with Whiting applying the finishing touch on 50 minutes.

The Broncos were having plenty of possession, but a lack of creativity was proving their undoing.

And as the half progressed the Black and Whites finally began exerting some authority, Horne's kicking pinning London back at their sticks.

The game was still tight on the scoreboard, but Hull nudged further ahead when Tickle booted a penalty after Shane Rodney transgressed.

The Broncos came straight back though, Michael Robertson cashing in with a try on 72 minutes after Gower's kick confused the Hull defence.

The Londoners continued to press, but were unable to find that decisive score.

Three tries in eight minutes midway through the second half put Wigan two points clear at the top of Super League and posed serious questions about Huddersfield’s title ambitions.

Greg Eden had briefly levelled the scores at 12-12, but George Carmont’s double sandwiched Liam Farrell’s close-range effort in an impressive match-winning spell for the visitors.

'We scored some great tries,' said Wigan coach Shaun Wane. 'To score seven tries against a team like Huddersfield, who I’m a big admirer of, I’m fairly satisfied.

'They asked us some questions in the first half and they were always going to do that, they’ve got some great players. The desire we showed to support each other was fantastic.'

Jeff Lima’s last-minute try added the finishing touches to a win that leaves Huddersfield’s big-match ability in doubt. They reached the Challenge Cup final in 2009, but have since lost in successive play-off campaigns without making any real impact. Only wins in games like this will engender a belief that the Giants are capable of making a first Grand Final appearance.

They started well enough, with hooker Luke Robinson spotting a gap on the blind side before quick hands from Leroy Cudjoe gave Jermaine McGillvary enough space to slide over.

But the Warriors hit back with three tries before half-time.

Smart passes from Darrell Goulding twice sent Josh Charnley over, either side of a try from Sam Tomkins after brilliant footwork.

Only Charnley’s three conversion misses left Huddersfield with any hope at the break. Eden’s score boosted the hosts, but Wigan pulled clear.

Giants coach Nathan Brown admitted: 'They were too good for us. They’re a very good team and they were better than us in a couple of key areas.'
