Jose Mourinho's reinvention as the nicest guy in football continued in Turkey at the weekend as he checked out Real Madrid's Champions League opponents Galatasaray.

Mourinho, who was gushing in his praise of Manchester United after knocking them out of the tournament in the last round, went head to head with Gala coach Fatih Terim.

But it was all lover-dovey as the pair shared several hugs and pats on the back at Kayserispor's Kadir Has Stadium, where Terim's side won 3-1.

Wesley Sneijder was on the scoresheet for the Turkish table-toppers and he gave Mourinho a smile and a wave.

The Dutchman won the Champions League with Inter Milan under Mourinho three years ago and he said: 'It's great to see him again. The last time I saw him was in the final when we played in 2010, the final against Bayern Munich.

'That was the last time I saw him, so it was a very nice moment when he came to visit us and I am happy to see him again because we had a great time together.

'But I just send him a message that he should be careful because if he is around, I always score.'

Less impressive was another Mourinho old boy as former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba missed a sitter for Galatasaray.

Terim watched Real thump Mallorca 5-2 on Saturday so would have been relieved to see his side put on a show in front of Mourinho, who was at the match with his son.

Burak Yilmaz scored Gala's other two goals and they will travel to the Spanish capital for the first leg on Wednesday, April 3 with the return set for the following Tuesday.

Mourinho, who is looking to win the competition for the third time with his third different club, made the dash to to see the Turkish giants take on Kayserispor.

And he will have been impressed with what he saw as the visitors ran out 3-1 winners thanks to a brace from Champions League top scorer Burak Yilmaz and a strike from Wesley Sneijder.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal have turned down the chance to sign Wesley Sneijder – despite the Dutchman potentially being available for free.

It's the Inter Milan midfielder's massive 200,000-a-week wage demands that are proving a turn off.

Unsurprisingly, the Italian club want Sneijder, 28, off their wage bill but agents contacting Premier League clubs on Inter's behalf have failed to drum up any interest.

The Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported over the weekend that Liverpool had made a 9.5m offer for him.

But Sneijder quickly rubbished the rumour, telling a press conference: 'Again, no truth.'

He said: 'Clearly it's best for everyone concerned that in January I am transferred. If that doesn't happen then I will stay. I have a contract with Inter until 2015.'

Unsettled Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has moved to dampen speculation linking him with a January move to Liverpool.

Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported on Sunday that the Reds had made a 9.5million offer for the Dutchman.

Sneijder has been left feeling isolated at the San Siro after snubbing a suggested annual pay cut of 1.6million and then being dropped from the first-team.

But he denied there was any foundation in the story linking him to an Anfield switch when asked about it on Monday, telling a press conference: ‘Again, no truth’.

The 28-year old – who has also attracted interest from Manchester United and Tottenham – reacted furiously to Inter’s proposed salary cut and demanded a move, putting the pressure on the Serie A outfit to sell him for close to the same 15million euro fee they paid Real Madrid in 2009.

‘Clearly it’s best for everyone concerned that in January I am transferred,’ he said defiantly. ‘If that doesn’t happen then I will stay. I have a contract with Inter until 2015.’

Manager Andrea Stramaccioni has since dropped Sneijder from the squad over the bitter dispute.

His wage bill is currently 200,000 per week and Inter will be relieved to offload the financial burden. Liverpool’s coffers, however, are unlikely to be able to stretch to such levels.

Talk of a move to Spurs for the Holland international cooled when his agent told Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad:

‘There is nothing, absolutely nothing true about that.’

United are also thought to be weighing up a January bid for the former Ajax man.

The wife of Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has told a Dutch newspaper that her husband will leave the San Siro in January.

The Holland international faces an uncertain future at Inter after rejecting a request to take a significant pay cut, with Nerazzurri head coach Andrea Stramaccioni insisting the 28-year-old's three-month absence from his team is solely a tactical decision.

But Sneijder – a long-term Manchester United target – was dismissed from training for Christmas early this week despite Inter having two more games to play before the winter break.

The Dutch midfielder has refused to accept a contract with reduced wages at Inter and club director Marco Branca has said he will not be involved in the Italian giants’ plans until he accepts the terms of a less extravagant wage package.

Sneijder, who led Jose Mourinho’s Inter team to the league, Champions League and domestic cup titles in 2010, was courted by a number of clubs, including United, in the summer, but Sir Alex Ferguson put the brakes on any deal due to the high wages he would demand.

But it now appears the Dutchman could also be shipped out in the January transfer window if a resolution is not reached quickly.

'Sneijder isn’t playing because the coach (Andrea Stramaccioni) doesn’t think he’s at his best, above all psychologically,' said Inter president Massimo Moratti.

'For us it’s natural to look for a way to not be forced to sell him and he has the right to not accept our offer. If it stays like that, the solution will be on the transfer market.'

The 28-year-old signed a five-year 200,000 a week deal in 2010, but Inter have made efforts to scale back their spending, which resulted in the sale of goalkeeper Julio Cesar to QPR this summer.

Branca issued a statement about Sneijder on the club website.

Branca said: ‘We’ve been negotiating with him for a while and we need to modify his contract.

‘We want to give him time to think about it and so we won’t be using him for the time being.’

Title-chasing Inter are without a win in three games after Monday’s 1-0 defeat at Parma and have dropped down to fourth place, but are only four points behind leaders and champions Juventus.

Stramaccioni, whose third-placed side must get a result without Sneijder to keep pace with league leaders Juventus, said: ‘Obviously, I hope the situation can be resolved as soon as possible.

‘I speak daily with both Wesley, and with the president. So I know the situation.’

'I think the issue is simpler than people may think. Over the summer the club decided to have some very clear guidelines that we wanted to use throughout the transfer campaign.

'I have enormous respect for Wesley as a player and a man, but right now my position as the coach is not to select him for the good of the club.

'Having said that, I am going to Parma with great players at my disposal.'

Sneijder is set to earn 20million over the next two seasons until 2015 on his current deal, but Inter want him to agree to a deal through to 2017 for 30million.

Manchester City could finally grab Daniele de Rossi from Roma in a move that would pave the way for Nigel de Jong to join Inter Milan.

Roma have softened their stance on selling their talisman and put the onus on him to decide his future.

Despite previously insisting that the 29-year-old would not be sold this summer, they are now willing to consider offers above 25million.

'That is not to say we would give in to Daniel, but at least we would talk about it.

Roberto Mancini is a huge admirer of the Italy midfielder and only failed in a bid last summer because De Rossi wanted to stay in Rome for family reasons.

The situation may now be different as Serie A struggles to hold on to its star players, putting City back on alert.

A move for De Rossi could pave the
way for De Jong's exit. The Dutchman has insisted he is happy to stay
with the champions, but has seen opportunities limited as he enters the
final year of his contract.

Inter,
who have been priced out of moves for Arsenal's Alex Song and Gunners
target Yann M'vila, believe 7m could be enough to sign the 27-year-old.

Holland team-mate Wesley Sneijder has already given his backing to the deal.

'De
Jong is bravissimo,' said Sneijder. 'I've known him for seven years, we
have grown together and I can assure you that he is crazy – in a good
way – for football.

'If
a match is at half-eight in the evening, he wakes up at eight in the
morning and spends the whole day thinking only about how to win and give
his best.

'On the pitch he always plays with heart and if he came to (Inter) Milan it would be a pleasure for me.'

Tottenham have rejected Real Madrid's latest 38million offer for Luka Modric as the transfer saga threatens to drag into the new season.

And the Bernabeu club are now threatening to completely pull their interest in the wantaway midfielder as frustration grows at Spurs' hardline negotiation tactics.

Modric is one of Jose Mourinho's primary transfer targets this summer and the Spanish giant's have already seen several bids turned down by the White Hart Lane club.

Waiting game: Mourinho's patience is waning thin in his battle to sign Modric

The latest to be refused is a 30million offer plus an additional 8m in add-ons spread across the length of the Croatian's contract.

Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has set a 40million asking price for Modric and will not accept a penny under the asking price.

Levy is also said to be unhappy with the structure of Madrid's latest offer, wanting more money up front and less in add-ons.

The rebuffed offer is yet another blow for the Spanish club in their summer-long chase to sign Modric – who has agreed personal terms on a five year deal with Madrid.

And it is understood Real chiefs have told their Tottenham counterparts they will now look at alternative midfield targets – with a move to re-sign Wesley Sneijder from Inter Milan a possibility.

Whether Madrid's threat to pull the plug on their interest in Modric is serious or merely a bargaining ploy remains to be seen, but nevertheless the long-running saga is showing no signs of coming to a conclusion.

Tottenham are adamant Modric – who still has four years to run on his current deal – will stay in north London if Madrid do not meet the asking price.

The 26-year-old remains desperate to quit White Hart Lane for Real ahead of the new season.

Modric has embarked on a mini-revolt by boycotting pre-season training sessions and the club's tour of the US.

Andre Villas-Boas' side will return to London today with the Portuguese manager seeking a quick resolution to the Modric affair in one way or another.
