Kevin Sinfield's drop goal eight minutes from time secured a dramatic win for Leeds over Hull KR at Craven Park.

Leeds looked dead and buried at half-time, trailing 18-6, but three tries in seven minutes at the start of the second half put the Rhinos in the driving seat as they put their defeat to Wakefield behind them.

Rovers will see this as an opportunity lost after giving the champions a run for their money.

The hosts set the tone for an entertaining game right from the opening kick-off with a high-tempo opening.

Graeme Horne's fifth-minute try came on the back of a great break from young full-back Louis Sheriff. Michael Dobson's touchline conversion gave the hosts a 6-0 lead.

It was the worst possible start for the defending champions who were coming off a 38-18 defeat at Wakefield six days earlier, but they got back on level terms five minutes later as they opened the Rovers defence up with a mix of the future and the past. Highly-regarded Stevie Ward danced past Sheriff before offloading to the supporting veteran Danny McGuire to touch down close to the posts. Sinfield's conversion levelled the scores.

The fixture threatened to boil over with Brett Delaney and Dobson being put on report after Delaney up-ended Dave Petersen, bringing a reaction from Dobson.

Rovers were awarded the penalty, the first of two in quick succession which gave Rovers the perfect position to launch another attack. Josh Hodgson scored to move level with Kris Welham in the try-scoring charts and Dobson added the extras for a 12-6 lead.

Dobson took the lead out to 12 points with a virtuoso try in the 33rd minute. From 40 metres out, he broke through a tackle to score leaving Delaney, Ryan Bailey, Ward and Zak Hardaker in his wake and added the extras with the boot.

Leeds looked stung but responded well in the second half, and within 10 minutes had gone from 12 points down to four in front with three quickfire tries.

Sinfield and Hall, who combined to deadly effect against Wakefield, were at it again five minutes after the interval as a long over-the-top pass from Sinfield was grounded with ease by Hall. Sinfield added the extras but he was off-target with his next conversion which seemed easier after McGuire crossed following Kallum Watkins' pass.

Leeds' third try in seven minutes came courtesy of Carl Ablett as Rovers struggled to contain their rampant opponents.

After 15 minutes of Leeds dominance, Rovers finally made it into Rhinos territory and more importantly they made it count.

Rovers built up pressure by forcing a goal-line drop-out and drew level through Sheriff following Scott Murrell's clever reverse kick, before Dobson's fourth goal from four edged the Robins in front.

With 18 minutes left to play, the points were there for the taking.

Dobson's error close to the Leeds line let the Rhinos off the hook, and Sinfield levelled the scores at 24-24 after Murrell was penalised for a ball steal.

Now it was down to a drop-goal lottery and Sinfield, as he has done so often in his career, dropped the goal to seal a narrow win for the Rhinos with eight minutes to go.

The closest Rovers got to scoring was when Scott Taylor got to the line but knocked on trying to ground the ball.

Catalan Dragons strengthened their grip on third place in Stobart Super League with a thrilling if not entertaining win over Hull KR at Craven Park.

It extended the French side's run over the Robins to four games and saw them return to winning ways after successive defeats to Salford and Wigan.

Trent Robinson labelled his side's performance against the Reds as disgraceful, but he would have been pleased with their overall display in east Hull.

Few sides have kept the Dragons to 20 points or less, but Rovers have done it twice this season. However, a third time was asking a little too much from the Robins.

The last time the Dragons visited Craven Park in April, they were outscored by four tries to three but escaped with a Challenge Cup victory thanks to a rare off-day by Rovers goalkicker Michael Dobson.

Tonight they had Scott Dureau on form with the boot with a superb drop goal and penalty at the death to secure the win.

Rovers were dealt an injury blow just five minutes into the game when Kris Welham was stretchered off with a serious leg injury after slipping unchallenged on the wet turf. After a cagey start by both sides, it was the Dragons that broke the deadlock. Video referee Ian Smith found no fault with Daryl Millard's high leap and knock back for Clint Greenshields, who in turn sent Setaimata Sa over for the score.

Dureau, whose kick caused the confusion in the first place, missed the conversion but Catalan led 4-0 after 17 minutes.

Rovers' response was impressive and prompt. Jake Webster had little room to ground Blake Green's kick but he did to level the scores, and Dobson's conversion gave the home side a 6-4 advantage after 20 minutes.

Chances were few and far between after that as defences came to the fore close to the respective try lines.

Ben Galea and Dobson twice squandered try-scoring opportunities before the end of the first half.

Just before the hooter sounded Dureau attempted a 40-metres drop goal, but the connection was not as good as he would have liked and it had neither the height nor direction to trouble the scorers.

Catalan would have been the happier of the two sides with the score 6-4 at the break. The Dragons should have been behind at the start of the second half when Graeme Horne went very close.

However, video referee Smith ruled out his try for a knock on over the line. Craig Hall could also has scored but an unfortunate knock on when the ball bounced up and hit his hand ruled the play dead.

Dureau equalised for the Dragons with a 55th-minute penalty, but the sides did not stay on level terms for long.

Five minutes later, Scott Murrell found himself on the left wing to ground Lincoln Withers' inch perfect kick through.

Dobson was off target with the conversion, but Rovers held a 10-6 lead which, in the wet conditions, was a good one until Greenshields scored an unconverted try to level matters with five minutes to go before Dureau dropped a goal three minutes later to break the 10-10 deadlock.

A Dureau penalty after the hooter added gloss to the score for the French side.

Catalan Dragons came back from 12-6 down to beat Hull KR at the Stade Gilbert Brutus and move up to third in the Stobart Super League table.

The home side took the lead in the 25th minute through Lopini Paea’s touchdown, with Scott Dureau adding the extras, but Rovers stormed back into the contest with converted tries from Michael Dobson and Kris Welham before half-time in Perpignan.

The Dragons fightback began with a Damien Blanch try in the 57th minute, and a further try from Thomas Bosc and three goals from Scott Dureau sealed the recovery.

Both sides began the match in a lively manner, and looked to move the ball wide and play an expansive game with Leon Pryce, Dureau, Scott Murrell and Dobson all eager to get their hands on the ball early on.

Catalans often looked to get into the Hull KR 20 metres zone but lacked composure and execution, often knocking on before applying any sustained pressure.

That was until the 25th minute when a penalty for offside allowed the Dragons to have their first back-to-back sets on the Rovers line.

Pryce went close from the tap, Michael Simon was halted just metres from the line and it was the third tackle that found Dureau and his pass on to the charging Paea, who brushed away former Dragon Dobson to touch down to the right of the posts. Dureau added the conversion to give the Dragons a 6-0 lead.

Rovers looked to hit back quickly and did so through Dobson with a smart dummy and dive for the line after superb build-up play from Graeme Horne after a poor pass from Daryl Millard gave the visitors field position. Dobson added the simple goal to level the scores.

With time running down to half-time Catalans looked to attack and a fifth tackle play saw Dureau kick to the corner for Blanch but the kick was intercepted by Welham, who raced the length of the field to outpace the Catalan cover defence and touch down in the left corner. Dobson converted from five metres inside the touchline to give the visitors a six-point advantage at the interval.

After the break the Dragons clicked into gear, laying siege to the Rovers line, the Hull KR defence held firm until the 57th minute when Blanch scored a contentious effort to narrow the gap to two points with a strong suspicion of a knock-on in the lead-up to the try. Dureau hit the post with the conversion attempt but the half-back did level the scores with 20 minutes remaining with a penalty from 20m after Rovers were caught offside.

Dureau further extended the lead in the 67th minute with another penalty for offside, with the Dragons attacking with increasing intent.

The Dragons consolidated the lead in the 75th minute with a smart play by Dureau and Gregory Mounis to set Bosc free to score to the left of the posts. Dureau added the conversion to give the hosts an unassailable eight-point lead.
