Arsenal's Johan Djourou could be on his way to Napoli in January, according to his agent.

The 25-year-old defender is surplus to requirements at the club and was close to moving away before the start of this season.

However, this failed to materialise and the Swiss has only made two appearances in the Capital One Cup so far this campaign.

Djourou, who has been linked with Roma in the past, has now reportedly set his sights on Napoli, who are riding high in third in Serie A.

His agent Flavio Ferraria said nothing had been decided yet, however.

'At the moment there has been no contact with Napoli and even with other Italian clubs,' he told calciomercato.it.

Andy Murray beaten by Roger Federer at ATP Finals semi final

Fed express tramples on Murray's dreams as Swiss star sets up Djokovic clash

22:41 GMT, 11 November 2012

With the 02 Arena festooned as if it had been shifted to somewhere called Basle-on-Thames Andy Murray might have wondered where he was as he stepped out to meet Roger Federer.

And by the time the great Swiss had finished with him he might have wondered what year it was, too, for as their match went on it seemed increasingly we had gone back to the time when Federer ruled the world and Murray was still trying to convert his promise into a Grand Slam title.

The result was a 7-6 6-2 victory in the semi-finals of the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals, in a contest that became disarmingly one-sided. Murray will have many fantastic memories from 2012 but this will not be one of them.

Contrasting fortunes: Roger Federer jumps for joy as Andy Murray is beaten at the semi-final stage

In the last match of the regular season, Federer will take Novak Djokovic – a 4-6 6-3 6-2 winner over Juan Martin Del Potro – and those of us who have been heralding the Djokovic-Murray axis as the new big thing in tennis will try and digest a little humble pie.

Federer showed the champion's appetite for a scrap and backed it up with fine shot making after a poor start and whatever happens this evening he will be heading into his off-season feeling a little less than his 31 years.

Murray enters that phase of the year on Monday, and in defeat it was not hard for him to find consolation in the events of the last five months. 'If you told me last year that I would be sitting in this position now with the results I've had in the last twelve months I would have signed up for that straightaway,' he said.

'It's been incredibly positive season but obviously I would have loved to finish it with a win. It's been the best year of my career by a mile and I've achieved things I've never done before.'

One of those came in the Olympic final, when he trounced Federer, and it was interesting to note how different Sunday night's atmosphere was to that heady Sunday afternoon in August in the midst of that heady two weeks.

On that day you had never heard a British crowd so supportive of Murray and positively anti-Federer, swept up in Olympic fervour, but it was as if the default position of deep affection for the great Swiss had been reset and that many had forgotten the home player's historic triumphs of 2012.

Murray did not complain that he was afforded less than partisan support, although it hardly augurs well for his chances of winning Sports Personality of the Year, saying 'Whenever you play Roger anywhere in the world he gets great support and he deserves that because of everything that he's achieved.'

Catch me if you can: Federer managed to get nose in front – and stayed there

The febrile atmosphere did not spur Federer to race out of the blocks, far from it, and his forehand was erratic as he gifted the 25 year-old Scot the first break of the match in the very first game, and was fortunate not to go 3-0 down shortly afterwards.

Competitor that he is, Federer fought his way back in and started to profit from his opponent's second serve, coming back from 3-1 down in a tiebreak in which neither man did much wrong until Murray netted a couple of times to conclude it.

The match properly turned at 1-1 in the second set, when Murray got to 40-0 on his serve and then threw in five desperately poor points in succession with ill-executed drop shots to the fore, the manoeuvre he admits can leave him looking like a genius or idiot.

Despair: Murray reflects on his semi-final defeat to Federer

'I started the match well, he came back in and then I played that poor game. He is very tough once he gets ahead, he played very well after that. I didn't think it was an incredibly high standard in terms of the length of the points, a lot of them went quickly,' said Murray, often pressured by the Swiss's judicious net rushes.

The fact that their last two matches had seen Federer lose all five sets was an irrelevance, but then a big difference was that this was indoors and he is the greatest player ever seen in this environment.

Whether that will be enough to see off Djokovic is another matter with the Serb in this mood. He was in deep trouble at a break down in the second set but eventually worked Del Potro out, and you have never beaten the world No 1 until you shake hands.

The goal equalised Mike Hanke's early strike for the Germans in the UEFA Europa League tie at the Stade Velodrome.

Marseille thought they had won it when Jordan Ayew struck with 20 minutes left, but Juan Aranago's goal deep into stoppage time shared the spoils in Group C.

Fenerbahce all but guaranteed progression from the same group with a 2-0 win over AEL in Turkey. Dirk Kuyt and Moussa Sow scored the goals while AEL had Edwin Ouon sent off late on.

The Turks' hopes were boosted by Marseille and Gladbach's draw, which leaves the two sides locked together on five points.

Reigning Europa League champions Atletico Madrid stumbled back towards the knockout stages after a shock 2-0 defeat to Group B rivals Academica in Portugal.

With a win enough to guarantee progression, Atletico turned in a flat performance against the side lying 10th in the Portuguese table, and a goal in each half from Wilson Eduardo gave Academica victory.

While the result is still unlikely to affect the holders' progress to the knockout stages, their status as group winners is now open to question after Viktoria Plzen joined them at the top on nine points.

Swiss side Young Boys blew the fate of Group A wide open with a shock 3-2 win over Serie A Udinese in Italy.

Raul Bobadilla opened the scoring for Young Boys in the 27th minute and despite Antonio Di Natale's equaliser, they regained the initiative through Alexander Farnerud and Rapha Nuzzolo.

Diego Fabbrini gave the Italians late hope with an 83rd minute effort but their defeat leaves them stranded at the bottom of the table on four points.

Udinese's loss was good news for Liverpool, who were beaten by Lacina Traore's 45th minute strike for Anzhi Makhachkala in Moscow. Anzhi now top the group by a point, with Liverpool and Young Boys tied second.

Edison Cavani scored all four as Napoli beat Group F leaders Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 4-2 in Italy. Artem Fedetskiy and Roman Zozulya replied for the visitors, who remain top.

British veteran Michael Sprott furiously shoved a boxing referee to the ground on Saturday night after his fight was called off in the fourth round.

Referee Gerhard Sigl asked the fighter if he could carry on after Sprott made it to his feet at the count of four, and though he indicated he would at the count of eight, Sigl decided to end the contest.

Sprott was enraged and shouted at the official, pushed him and eventually forced the Swiss referee to the ground, at the Stechert Arena in Germany.

Arguably the referee made a mistake in calling the fight to an end too soon, but Sprott is likely to receive a deserved ban for his actions.

Italian veteran Alessandro Del Piero is in talks with Olympiakos over a possible move to the Greek outfit.

Del Piero had been linked with a shock move to striker-shy Liverpool after Brendan Rodgers was unable to find a replacement for Andy Carroll before the transfer window shut last week.

The 37-year-old free agent, who ended a glittering 19-year stint at Italian champions Juventus, was also linked with Celtic and Swiss club FC Sion.

But according to reports in Greece, Olympiakos have offered the classy striker a one-year deal worth 1.75million with the option to keep him on for another year.

Del Piero's brother and representative, Stefano, is leading the negotiations with the Greek double winners.

Stefano also revealed that Del Piero's future will be settled sooner rather than later.

He said: 'At this moment, I can’t say anything more than that we are in contact.

'Be patient. It is a matter of hours before we see if Alessandro will play for Olympiakos or not.'

Del Piero, who has 91 caps for Italy, scoring 27 goals, is considered to be a modern great of the game and can operate as a striker or can play off a front man.

Parker to compete at Olympics after recovering from nightclub injury

France point guard Tony Parker has been cleared to take part in the London Olympics after doctors gave him the go-ahead.

Parker, named in the French squad on Thursday, was a doubt for the Games because of an eye injury suffered in an altercation in a nightclub in New York last month, the same incident in which rappers Drake and Chris Brown clashed over Rhianna.

The San Antonio Spurs player suffered a scratch to his cornea but after meeting with his employers and following medical checks in the United States Parker was told he could join up with the France squad.

The Spurs sought the opinions of two expert ophthalmologists who agreed with the French doctor who operated on Parker and two Swiss experts he consulted last week that he had recovered enough to play.

Parker, who could feature for France in a warm-up game against Great Britain on Saturday, could face many of his fellow NBA players when the United States provide France's first opponents in the Games on July 29.

The French Basketball Federation confirmed Parker's participation in the Games, revealing he had received the blessing of San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to take part.

Parker was due to join up with the rest of the squad in Orleans today.
France coach Vincent Collet told the federation website, ffbb.com: 'This is great news and a relief for all of the France squad.

'I had Tony on the phone and I felt very happy and also relieved at this outcome.

'It was for us all, a very painful and agonising (wait). Now we can combine our forces and focus on our Olympic goal.'
