Portsmouth fans have appealed to Balram Chainrai to help them save the stricken club.

Former owner Chainrai this week withdrew his offer to buy back Portsmouth, leaving the Pompey Supporters' Trust as the only remaining bidder.

But Hong Kong businessman Chainrai's company Portpin remains Pompey's biggest creditor and the PST have urged him to negotiate with them over the value of the club's ground, Fratton Park.

In an open letter to Chainrai, the PST said: 'We now believe the only stumbling block to the trust achieving an acceptable deal is the difference over our valuation of the ground.

'Therefore we respectfully ask you to provide us with a valuation supported by a least two independent commercial valuers which we will then enable us to consider our position in the hope of responding with an acceptable offer.'

Reading goalkeeper Mikkel Andersen, Chelsea midfielder Conor Clifford and defenders Paul Connolly, of Leeds, and Burnley's Kevin Long have agreed one-month loan deals.

But they face fierce competition from Arsenal and Sahin's desire to play in the Champions League could be a stumbling block.

The Anfield club are also monitoring Atletico Madrid and Uruguay defender Diego Godin, 26, who may become a Manchester City target if they fail to lure away Daniel Agger.

Rodgers is desperate to add to his squad before the opening game of the season at West Brom and said: 'There has been contact and communication with the clubs. The team of people behind myself are working very, very hard in relation to those targets. We hope that within the next number of weeks those will bear fruit.

'The work has been continual right the way through to try and get in players that fit the profile of Liverpool and the team. Like I say, I would hope there would be a couple more signings before the end of August.'

Tottenham's frustrating summer in the transfer market looks set to continue after Lyon confirmed they have rejected an approach from the club for France No 1 Hugo Lloris.

New Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas made signing a new goalkeeper one of his top priorities when he took over earlier this summer but, as with his search for a new striker, he has been thwarted thus far.

Villas-Boas wants Lloris, who captained France at Euro 2012, to compete with veteran Brad Friedel for his place, but while Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas confirmed the player wants to leave, he revealed Spurs had been rebuffed.

'Hugo wants to play in one of the best clubs in Europe,' Aulas told French radio station RMC.

'This year there was an approach from Tottenham that was quickly rejected.

'If he absolutely wants to leave, we will look at the proposals but they must be consistent with what we want. If not, he will stay.'

Villas-Boas has also struggled in his attempts to bring in a new striker, with Emmanuel Adebayor's astronomical wages proving a stumbling block in attempting to make his loan move from Manchester City to White Hart Lane last season a permanent switch.

Robin van Persie could cost Manchester United 30m

Man United fear Van Persie will cost 30m as Fergie rivals City and Juventus for star

Fantasy football 2012

Manchester United fear it could take as much as 30million to prise Robin van Persie away from Arsenal.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he has made a bid for Van Persie, with United ready to battle rivals Manchester City and Juventus for the 29-year-old Holland striker.

But club sources believe United will have to raise their opening offer to close to the record 30.75m it took to sign Dimitar Berbatov from Tottenham four years ago, and there is also concern that Ferguson’s chequered history with Arsene Wenger could also be a major stumbling block in any deal.

Speaking to the club’s in-house television station MUTV, Ferguson said: ‘Obviously Arsenal have given out the fact that we’ve made a bid for him. We try to keep business as close as possible to us until the moment we conclude a deal. There’s no point talking about something that might not happen.

‘There are other clubs interested in the player. We’ve shown an interest and that’s where we’re at at the moment.’

When asked about it later on Friday evening, Ferguson initially denied talking about Van Persie.

But after being informed that his comments were already on the club website he said: ‘I think Arsenal came out with a statement saying we made a bid. You know we try to do business before we announce anything and that’s what we’re going.'

Arsenal have sparked a three-way bidding war but are determined to play hardball before losing their best player.

The Dutchman’s career at Arsenal is all but over after it emerged he would not be flying out with the squad on the pre-season tour of south east Asia on Saturday.

Sportsmail understands three separate offers for Van Persie were submitted on Tuesday, with United offering in the region of 8million, Juventus 10m and City 12m — but all three offers were turned down by Arsenal chiefs, who want at least 20m for last season’s Footballer of the Year.

On his way: Van Persie was all smiles in training amid his exit plans

After Van Persie’s talks with manager
Arsene Wenger broke down, Arsenal want his exit completed as quickly as
possible to give the manager enough time to bolster his strikeforce
before the transfer window shuts next month and Van Persie’s suitors are
expected to return with renewed bids in the coming days.

However, there is now serious doubt
over whether United have a realistic chance of landing the striker.
Sources close to the deal claim Ferguson is only willing to stretch to
15million – way short of Arsenal’s minimum asking price.

United feel anything over 15m would
not represent value for money, considering Van Persie turns 29 next
month, his injury record and the fact he has less than 12 months to run
on his current deal.

Juventus seem more determined to land
the striker – an option Arsenal are likely to prefer such is their
reluctance to sell their prized-asset to a Premier League rival.

The Serie A side are trying to
offload Alessandro Matri to AC Milan for around 12million to help fund
Van Persie’s arrival, while they are also using the fact Arsenal would
face a fans backlash if they were to sell to City or United as one of
their key bargaining tools.

Furthermore, as Sportsmail reported
on July 6, Juve are also willing to make Van Persie the best paid player
in their history, with a deal worth 180,000-per-week – plus a huge
signing on fee.

City manager Roberto Mancini has made
Van Persie his top summer target but despite their riches, like United,
the Etihad Stadium club are unsure about forking out 20million for Van
Persie.

Wenger is expected to speak about the
decision to omit Van Persie from the travelling squad, with the
Frenchman likely to blame the fact the forward is not fit enough to play
games after his involvement at Euro 2012.

However, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain,
Olivier Giroud and Theo Walcott – who all spent longer at the tournament
- are all expected to travel.

There was a a mixture of shock and inevitability within the Arsenal hierarchy yesterday as news broke of Van Persie.

Certain club staff felt Van Persie’s
recent statement confirming his intention not to sign a new contract was
merely a ploy designed by the Dutchman’s agent, Kees Vos, to prompt the
Gunners into improving their original offer of a three-year deal worth
130,000-per-week.

And those staff members were
yesterday coming to terms with the prospect of appearing to have lost
the battle to keep their star striker at the Emirates Stadium.

However, a number of Van Persie’s
team-mates were said to be unruffled by the news that Van Persie would
miss the trip to Asia, knowing full well the striker has every intention
of leaving the capital this summer.

It is also understood that Nicklas
Bendtner, who has been linked with Malaga, will also miss the tour as he
looks to secure his move away from the club.

Meanwhile, there is better news for Wenger with key defender Laurent Koscielny set to sign a new five year contract next week.

The France international became a key
component in the heart of the Gunners defence last season, earning him a
Euro 2012 call-up.

Talks between Spurs and the Spanish club are ongoing but the main stumbling block towards a deal is the transfer fee.

Chelsea have been warned that Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to pay almost 43million for Hulk.

The European champions have struggled
to agree a fee with Porto for the Brazil striker after initially
registering interest around the 30m mark.

Target: Brazil's Hulk (left)

Hulk is keen to move to Stamford Bridge, but his price tag has shifted only upwards after a good run of games on international duty this summer.

Chelsea are looking at other options – such as Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic – in case they cannot agree a deal and claims of PSG's interest may be seen as trying to force Roman Abramovich to up his bid.

Portuguese media claim the ambitious French side have been in touch with Hulk's agent Teodoro Fonseca about developments as they look to sign a big striker.

PSG have so far failed in bids to sign Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain, Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Newspaper A Bola claims Tottenham will be contenders to sign Hulk if Andre Villas-Boas is appointed the new boss at White Hart Lane, though the price tag appears to be prohibitive.

Meanwhile, another Portuguese newspaper, Diario Noticias, says the biggest stumbling block to his move to Chelsea is a dispute about who should pay Fonseca for his five per cent stake in Hulk, and Uruguayan club Atletico Rentistas, who own 10 per cent.

Bayern Munich have made a U-turn over Edin Dzeko by lining up a 20m move for the Manchester City striker.

The German giants initially distanced themselves from Dzeko, after Sportsmail exclusively revealed in March that City manager Roberto Mancini had decided to offload the former Wolfsburg striker at the end of the season.

But the Champions League final defeat by Chelsea has prompted a change of heart over the need for another proven finisher.

Bayern have targeted Dzeko and also vowed to compete with Manchester City for 25m-rated Spain defender Javi Martinez.

With the Bosnia striker recently accepting that his days at City were numbered, a return to the Bundesliga looks certain, provided Bayern can come close to matching a likely 20million-plus asking price.

Finance is unlikely to prove a stumbling block, after a clear signal that Bayern are ready to spend lavishly to reclaim their place at the top of German football.

Birmingham City have sent a message to West Bromwich Albion that any approach for manager Chris Hughton will be unwelcome.

It is the second time inside 12 months that the Blues face losing their manager to a rival following Alex McLeish’s defection to Aston Villa.

A Birmingham source said that any attention would be treated as ‘hostile’ and the clubs’ healthy working relationship would be jeopardised if contact was made through anything other than official channels.

West Bromwich are still hopeful of persuading Birmingham goalkeeper Ben Foster to join on a permanent basis and, while the clubs were able to thrash out a loan agreement 12 months ago, bitterness over the managerial situation could jeopardise a move for the former England man.

There is also an opening at the Hawthorns for an assistant. That proved a stumbling block 12 months ago when Roy Hodgson took the job.

Hughton would be free to take Colin Calderwood with him, but that would also be met with hostility by Birmingham.

Chelsea ready to break the bank for Eden Hazard

Chelsea ready to break the bank for Hazard and beat off interest from Man City and United

21:33 GMT, 19 May 2012

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is offering to pay Belgium star Eden Hazard a staggering 250,000 a week, which he believes will see off competition from Manchester City and United.

Hazard's agent was in London on Saturday according to reliable sources in France.

Chelsea expect a 30million fee for Lille's 21-year-old attacking midfielder and the offer of a fiveyear deal will be successful.

Eden out: Which club will win the race to sign Hazard

Only City's Yaya Toure is thought to earn more, at 270,000 a week.

Chelsea's offer is one that even City's Premier League titlewinning Roberto Mancini and his Abu Dhabi paymasters are reluctant to match as they try to reduce their losses to comply with UEFA's financial fair play regulations.

City are also in the hunt for Arsenal striker Robin van Persie and need to get stars like Carlos Tevez, Edin Dzeko and Emmanuel Adebayor off the wage bill before they can break the bank again.

City cite Hazard's wage demands and high agent's fees as the stumbling block to a deal.

They were seen as favourites to land Hazard, to the point of inviting him to the crucial derby match against United at the Etihad and taking him on a tour of homes in the more fashionable areas of Cheshire.

But negotiations floundered as City lost patience with Hazard's representatives over their refusal to budge from his sky-high wage demands and an incredible 6m fee for organising the move from the French First Division club.

City received one boost when Mario Balotelli quashed talk of a return to Italy by pledging his future to the club.

The volatile attacker has been linked with a move back to Serie A following a number of highprofile incidents on and off the pitch.

The 21-year-old admits he loves his homeland but this will not tempt him away from the Etihad. He said: 'I love Italy but I will stay at City. The Premier League is the highest level for a player, and is a league I enjoy.'

The Italian has impressed on the pitch but often struggles to keep cool when things turn against him and he admits he must be more consistent.

He told an Italian newspaper: 'From a personal perspective, I can and should do better.'

United fans will be worried, however, if they miss out on Hazard, given that their midfield needs strengthening after losing their Premier League crown to neighbours City. Figures released last week showed United's debt stands at 423m, while their cash reserves have dropped to 25m with overall income also falling by six per cent.

It means Sir Alex Ferguson will find it hard to compete at the top end of the transfer market, which he has blamed clubs like City for making 'insane'.

The United boss has pledged to rebuild the team by developing younger players rather than buying star names.

Sir Alex, who must replace veterans Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs in midfield, has been linked with 7m Borussia Dortmund and Japan midfielder Shinji Kagawa and another Belgian star, Mousa Dembele, of Fulham, who is refusing to commit to a new contract at Craven Cottage.

Tottenham were among the suitors for Hazard in the January transfer window but the fee and wages required have rocketed well beyond their scope.

Hazard has expressed a desire to switch to the Premier League, indicating last week he would announce his decision tomorrow about which of the two Manchester clubs he would join.

But clearly there would have to be a significant scaling down of his representative's demands before any such deal could go through and Chelsea's late move may swing the deal Abramovich's way.

Lille are planning to give Hazard a memorable send-off in their final home game of the season against Nancy today.

The 2011 French champions are already resigned to their star player leaving, most likely to a Premier League club.

'We are going to celebrate him,' Lille coach Rudi Garcia told the club's website before the game against mid-table Nancy.

'I am proud to have taken my part in his progress. I often said he would be one of the European greatest.

'He's an exceptional player who made history at the club.'

Hazard helped Lille to secure their qualification for next season's Champions League playoff and was named the best Ligue One player for the second year in a row.
