Haroon Khan's bid to follow in the footsteps of big brother Amir began seamlessly on Saturday night with a points victory over Brett Fidoe in Sheffield.

The 21-year-old made his professional debut just hours before his elder sibling's clash with Julio Diaz and never looked in serious trouble at the Motorpoint Arena.

Boxing at super flyweight, Khan was however too eager to impress at times – an accusation levelled at his brother throughout his career – but came through unscathed.

Representing Pakistan, Khan won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in 2010 and is now working under Salford-based trainer Oliver Harrison who guided Amir to a 17-fight undefeated professional career before their sudden split in 2008.

Fidoe, meanwhile, began his career with successive defeats at the tail end of last year before halting the slide with his sole victory to date in February.

Such was the ease with which he was expected to be deposed, the 22-year-old already had his next assignment lined up – against an unbeaten prospect in Manchester in just 13 days time.

Making his debut six months after turning professional, Khan was afforded a warm welcome by the simmering crowd and he looked determined to give them something to cheer about from the first bell.

Abandoning his jab, he repeatedly attempted to land the overhand right, only for Fidoe to slip it with ease.

The few punches that did land came from Khan however and that pattern continued into the second session.

At the start of the third stanza, Khan threw an eye-catching three-punch combination and although the first two missed the target, the third, a left, landed flush.

He had further success when he switched downstairs to the body and had by this time built up a commanding lead.

To Fidoe's credit, he came out swinging for the final three minutes and deserved the consolation of winning the round only to be forced to share the spoils as the referee awarded Khan victory by 40 points to 37.

Amir Khan has launched his new promotional company with his brother Haroon the first signing.

The younger Khan is looking to follow in his sibling's footsteps in the professional ranks after a decent amateur career that was capped with a bronze medal in the flyweight division at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

He will get to do so under his brother's Super Fight Promotions banner, which boasts long-time promoter Dennis Hobson as a partner.

'I've always wanted to turn professional and to do so under Super Fight Promotions was an opportunity that I couldn't turn down,' said Haroon.

'I have big ambitions but will take things a step at a time and I know I've got the best team behind me, who have that experience, to help guide my career to the very top.'

The announcement comes just days after former IBF and WBA light-welterweight champion Khan revealed Virgil Hunter would be his new trainer, with his next bout against the undefeated Carlos Molina in December.

'I'm delighted that Haroon is the first fighter to sign for Super Fight Promotions. He's got a lot of talent and I know he can achieve a lot in the professional game,' said the elder Khan.

'His amateur record will serve him well and I have no doubts that his decision to turn professional will prove to be a very fruitful one.

'Super Fight Promotions is a company which is going to make big waves in boxing as we actively seek to sign the very best young talent around.'

Looking like the before pictures in a hair straightener advert, the Fellaini brothers made a hair raising sight in the stands at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.

The Belgium international has become famous for his curly locks since moving to Merseyside and little did we know his brother is a perfect double.

The pair looked like a 1970s disco
tribute act as they perched in their seats in the stands during the Capital One Cup
clash with Leyton Orient.

And while the street vendors around the ground do a roaring trade in copycat wigs, there's no mistaking that these siblings are a cut above.

Although that could be David Luiz sitting next to the Everton midfielder. Or Rene Higuita. Or Kevin Keegan. Or Sideshow Bob from the Simpsons.

Maybe they could sign for Barnet one day

Fantasy football 2012

Eden Hazard admits he can't wait to line-up alongside his little brother Thorgan for the first time ever when Chelsea kick-off the new season.

Older sibling Eden, 21, was joined at Stamford Bridge earlier this month by his 19-year-old younger brother, who joined the European champions just weeks after his high-profile 32million arrival from Lille.

Blues boss Roberto Di Matteo signed Thorgan for a considerable fraction of that fee from French second division outfit Lens but Eden believes he will prove to be real value for money for the west London side.

'Despite both of us having been at Tubize, we have never played in the same team,' Hazard told Chelsea's official club website.

'I hope I can play soon alongside my brother in the national team and also for Chelsea.'

Thorgan is looking to breakthrough to the senior Belgium side this year after impressing on the wings for the nation's Under 19s.

But Eden believes his brother is more adept in central midfield – rather than out wide where he expects to start the season for Chelsea.

'My brother is not the same as me because he is not someone who dribbles a lot,' Hazard added.

'He is more someone who has a passing game in midfield.

'He can play on the wings also but his best position is in central midfield, a number 10.'

With his Manchester City career in limbo following his sending off against Arsenal next month, Mario Balotelli vowed to improve his ways in an effort to bid at the Etihad Stadium beyond next season.

Since manager Roberto Mancini issued what seemed to a be a final warning to the controversial Italian striker over his behaviour, he has kept a relatively low profile.

Until now…

Kell Brook v Matthew Hatton bout arranged

It's the War of the Roses as Brook v Hatton showdown is arranged

World title contender Kell Brook will take on British rival Matthew Hatton in a high-profile ‘War of the Roses’ battle.

The 25-year-old Yorkshireman will fight Lancaster's European welterweight champion Hatton in an intriguing clash at the 13,500-capacity Motorpoint Arena in his native Sheffield on March 17.

Brook, who is highly ranked by the four major governing bodies, is on the verge of a world title shot this year having stepped up in class in 2011.

Victory against Hatton – who lost gallantly but comprehensively in a WBC light-middleweight challenge against Saul Alvarez last year – should finally earn him his own long-awaited title shot.

Hatton, meanwhile, has ambitions of his own and is looking to secure the chance to emulate older brother Ricky by becoming a world champion himself.

Promoter Eddie Hearn, who confirmed they are planning to set the venue up to hold 9,000 people, said: 'This is exactly the kind of fight we want to start making in this country.

'It is a fight that captures the imagination. Kell is coming along at the perfect rate with the perfect fights and this will build into a huge event for British boxing.'

After establishing himself as a draw in his home city with two impressive wins at smaller arenas, before making his American debut last month, Brook (26-0, 18KOs) will aim to confirm his box office appeal by stepping up to top the bill at the large Sheffield venue.

'When Eddie said to me that this fight was on the table I just started smiling,' Brook said.

'It has been a long time coming so I’m pleased.

'I want to separate us as number one and two in Britain. Matthew thinks he should be number one so that’s why I’m happy, I’m pleased to be able to prove it is me.'

Hatton (42-5-2, 16 KO wins) believes the two were destined to meet.

'I always knew I would fight Kell one day,' he said.

'So this is a fight that excites me. I've got a lot of respect for Kell as a fighter but this couldn't come at a better time for me.

'The local rivalry makes it even more exciting and I'm looking forward to proving who is the number one in Britain.

'I firmly believe that I am, but talk is cheap.'

Ronaldo teams up with Neymar in Zico charity match

Neymar forms little-and-large partnership with Brazil legend Ronaldo

No matter how many Christmas calories you”ve consumed, chances are you”re probably still not as wide as the former superstar Brazilian Ronaldo.

Sadly, you”re probably not as good at football either – despite his waistline, which seems to be expanding exponentially, he starred in a charity match organised by another Samba boys star, the great Zico.

The rotund ex-Barcelona striker teamed up with current hot-shot Neymar on the side “Friends of Zico”, to put the “Stars of Brazil” to the sword.

Neymar has been heavily linked with the Catalan side himself, but instead of teaming up with Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp, he made do with another legend.

It was a good time for (goal) gluttons, as there was a veritable feast of strikes, with Ronaldo and Neymar”s side running out 7-5 winners – or walking out in some cases.

Ronaldo rolled back the years to score a penalty in the 8th minute with aplomb; his “little and large” partnership with Neymar was productive – though the latter”s athletic wizardry certainly helped.

The match at Sao Paolo”s Morumbi Stadium, in front of over 35,000 specators, saw Brazilian players from various generations enjoy some pitch time, including Junior, Edmundo and Ailton and Djaminha.

Onefamous Brazilian was sadly absent – Socrates died in early December – but his brother Rai was present to see his sibling honoured at the match.

Mario Balotelli"s brother plays for Stoke City reserves

Now Balotelli”s brother plays for City…. Stoke City, that is! Enoch in reserve team run out

Low profile: While Mario (pictured) was on Manchester City

Low profile: While Mario (pictured) was on Manchester City”s bench, brother Enoch was playing for Stoke”s reserves

Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli isn”t one for keeping a low profile. However, it seems his brother has little choice in the matter having turned out for Stoke City”s reserves away to Burton Albion.

Enoch, a 19-year-old who also plays as a forward, managed 80 minutes of action before being substituted with cramp.

Like Mario, who was on the bench as City”s Champions League campaign came to an end on Wednesday, Enoch was born in Ghana but raised in Italy.

The younger sibling has previously caught the eye of Serie A side Napoli – the team who, ironically, knocked the Premier League leaders out of Europe – but is understood to have been training with Stoke for three weeks.

Speaking after the game, which was drawn 0-0, the club”s academy coach Dave Kevan said: “He”s been with training with us for a while and it was good to give him a run out. He”s a good boy but a little bit raw at the moment. We”ll see how things go.”

Meanwhile, local media reported Balotelli showed “a deft touch, a piece of showboating and a couple of theatrical slips on the greasy surface.”
