Arsenal's Johan Djourou could be on his way to Napoli in January, according to his agent.

The 25-year-old defender is surplus to requirements at the club and was close to moving away before the start of this season.

However, this failed to materialise and the Swiss has only made two appearances in the Capital One Cup so far this campaign.

Djourou, who has been linked with Roma in the past, has now reportedly set his sights on Napoli, who are riding high in third in Serie A.

His agent Flavio Ferraria said nothing had been decided yet, however.

'At the moment there has been no contact with Napoli and even with other Italian clubs,' he told calciomercato.it.

Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Southampton are on the trail of Italian striker Domenico Berardi.

The 18-year-old has been starring for Serie B side Sassuolo scoring three goals in 10 appearances in the process.

His agent, Giuseppe Galli, says Premier League champions City have joined Juventus and Roma in the race for the teenager's signature and have sent scouts frequently to watch him playing for Sassuolo.

Galli said: 'Juventus, Roma and Manchester City seeking Berardi These are not rumours – this is real interest. During recent weeks these clubs have sent observers to see Sassuolo's matches on many occasions.

'Manchester City's scouts have often come from England.'

Sassuolo's general director, Nereo Bonato, says clubs have yet to contact them but says Liverpool and Southampton have requested to attend matches.

He told calciomercato.it: 'We have received accreditation requests to view our games in recent times from English clubs such as Liverpool and Southampton. But it is too early to talk about the market so there has been no contact with any club.'

Bonato said: 'Berardi has important qualities and certainly he deserves attention, but I think the guy has yet to grow and that Sassuolo is the right place for him to do it.

'We would like to keep the whole team until the end of the season, then in June we'll see.'

On his way Carroll has fallen down the pecking order at Anfield

Liverpool have told Newcastle that they will have to stump up 17million in cash if they want to bring Andy Carroll back to Tyneside this summer.

New Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is prepared to offload the England striker, but only club can recuperate a sizeable chunk of the 35m they paid for him in January 2011.

Newcastle Chronicle sources are told that Liverpool are not prepared to let Carroll leave on loan, but they are prepared to take a loss on the 23-year-old to offload him.

Rodgers has brought in Fabio Borini from Roma to compete with Luis Suarez for a starting place, and with the Northern Irishman likely to play with just one up front, Carroll's first-team opportunities will be limited.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is keen to bolster his squad as the Magpies prepare to compete in the Europa League, but it is unknown whether the club would be willing to pay the 17m for Carroll when they already have Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba on their books.

West Ham were prepared to break the bank to bring Carroll to Upton Park, but the Geordie turned down a move to London.

Staying put: Alberto Aquilani will remain at Liverpool

Alberto Aquilani will attempt to revive his Anfield career and stay at Liverpool this summer.

The 28-year-old failed to settle following his 17million arrival from Roma in 2009 and has spent two loan spells back in his native Italy with Juventus and AC Milan since.

But after returning from the San Siro, the Italian midfielder is ready to fight for his return in a Reds shirt under new manager Brendan Rodgers after his agent reiterated his client will not be heading back to Serie A.

'Aquilani will remain at Liverpool,' his agent Franco Zavaglia said to www.calcionews24.com.

'He has a contract and hence there is nothing new.'

Aquilani has two years remaining on his contract with the club but has been strongly linked with a move away from Anfield this summer.

He spent last season on loan at Milan but the Rossoneri turned down their option to buy him permanently last month.

'I would say that at this point the chances that he could go back to Milan are impossible,' Zavaglia added.

'Other clubs I reiterate, he will remain at Liverpool.'

Aquilani has played just 28 matches for Liverpool since he arrived three years ago.

Brendan Rodgers has been busy taking in the Liverpool lifestyle after being spotted in one of the city’s most famous bars.

The new Reds boss was seen posing with fans at Garlands, which is a popular gay venue, as well as being a favourite among straight men.

One onlooker told The Sun, 'One of the lads made a joke about someone at the bar looking like Brendan Rodgers.

'It wasn’t until closer inspection that we realised it was actually him.

'He happily posed for pictures. Usually it’s the players you see in the club so to see the manager was a bit surreal.'

Garlands is the same nightclub that QPR midfielder Joey Barton was alleged to have an altercation outside last month when he was arrested for on suspicion of affray and released pending further charges.

Rodgers is settling into his role as the new Liverpool boss and met his squad for the first time last week as they returned for pre-season.

The Liverpool squad will train at their Melwood base before jetting off for a tour of North America and Canada where they will play Toronto, Roma and Tottenham.

Alberto Aquilani is set to return to Liverpool with the Italian midfielder having received no offers from other clubs.

Aquilani, who played on loan at AC Milan this season, is under contract with Liverpool until June 2014.

Reports in Italy claimed Aquilani would terminate his contract with the Reds outfit in order to make his move to Milan permanent this summer, something his agent has vehemently denied.

'Almost certainly he will not terminate his contract with Liverpool,' Aquilani's agent Franco Zavaglia said to Sportitalia.

'He could join them (Liverpool) at the beginning of July to start pre-season training with the English club. At this time there are no clubs interested in him.'

The 27-year-old Aquilani moved to Anfield in 2009 in a 20million transfer from Roma.

He endured a disappointing spell before being loaned to Juventus in the 2010-11 campaign and signed for AC Milan on a one-year loan deal last summer.

Aquilani scored one goal in 23 league appearances for the Rossoneri this season.
