Barton sets sights on French glory by insisting Marseille can beat PSG and Lyon to title
11:14 GMT, 26 December 2012
Joey Barton has said Marseille are good enough to lift the league title in France this season.
The club are third in Ligue 1 behind leaders PSG and second-placed Lyon but are level on points, and the former QPR man has pledged that he will do everything he can to make it happen.
'What is important is that we have a good rest, because the second half of the season will be tough,’ he told La Provence.
Battling: Barton is determined to win the Ligue 1 title
He also promised manager Elie Baup would be busy this transfer window.
‘Some players will be arriving and we will do everything we can to be champions.’
This statement of intent, however, is on hold because, for the first time in 10 years, Barton will put his feet up this Boxing Day.
Taking it easy: Barton is undertaking his first winter break
The 30-year old has lauded the easy-going French lifestyle, but taking a two-week rest over Christmas – before Ligue 1 resumes on January 11 – is among one of its bigger attractions.

David Moyes has warned any clubs hoping to cherry pick Everton's best players that he has no interest in breaking up his squad this summer.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have been tracking key midfielder Marouane Fellaini, while Leighton Baines – Everton's top performer for the last two seasons – has been linked with Manchester United.
Linked: Chelsea and PSG are monitoring Everton star Fellaini
Moyes, who has no intention of sacrificing any big names, is tracking Heerenveen striker Bas Dost and said: 'It will be important that we keep hold of our best players.
'We lost Mikel Arteta last year but I don't want to sell. So I'm not going out there as a salesman to try to sell them. We have had no contact from Chelsea (on Fellaini).'
Everton have been linked with Bayern Munich forward Dale Jennings but, although scouts were at a recent game, they were not specifically looking at the 19-year-old.

05:36 GMT, 29 March 2012
In demand: PSG are monitoring Chamakh
Paris Saint-Germain are considering a 6million swoop for Arsenal flop Marouane Chamakh.
The Morocco international is set to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer with Arsene Wenger planning a mass clear-out of fringe players, currently costing the club 23million a year in wages.
Chamkakh, who earns 60,000 a week, heads that list after struggling to find his form since his arrival on a free transfer last season.
According to the Daily Mirror, mega-rich PSG have expressed an interest in the 28-year-old who starred in the French top tier for Bordeaux prior to his move to north London.
And Wenger would be prepared to cash in on Chamakh, who has found the back of the net just once in 16 appearances this season.
Fiorentina and Chamakh's former club Bordeaux are also monitoring the situation.

Man United want Modric to keep Rooney happy… but he'll cost them 50m
Luka Modric is the player Manchester United want to sign to convince Wayne Rooney they are going to remain a major force.
The Tottenham midfielder is Sir Alex Ferguson's main summer target and will cost up to 50million after Chelsea set the benchmark last summer with an offer of 40m that Spurs rejected.
50m target: Man United want Luka Modric
Modric has proved himself one of the best players in Europe and a huge fee will be required to finally persuade Spurs chairman Daniel Levy to sell.
But that has not put United off and concluding the deal would be a statement of intent for both Rooney and the club's rivals after their struggles in midfield this season.
United have failed to find an adequate replacement for Paul Scholes since his retirement last year and Ferguson has been forced to use Rooney in his place at times.
Creative void: United have struggled to replace Paul Scholes
They will have to wait until the summer to sign Modric, who wants to avoid a repeat of the 'ordeal' sparked by Chelsea's persistent interest.
Meanwhile, Frank Lampard, is wanted by Carlo Ancelotti at Paris Saint-Germain. The 33-year-old England midfielder looks certain to leave Chelsea this summer and while he will have no shortage of options, he had a successful two years under Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge and the new PSG coach is keen to work with him again.
