Neil Lennon given three-match ban by Scottish FA

Lennon set to miss Celtic's title celebrations as SFA hit manager with three-game ban

, having been found guilty of breaching three rules after rushing on to the pitch at full-time following the Hoops' William Hill Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Hearts at Hampden to confront referee Euan Norris.

Lennon also received an additional suspended three-match ban which was to come into effect if any act of misconduct was committed by him before the end of this season.

We've all been there – sipping a pint in your local pub waiting for that bloke to finish playing pool so you can get a game.

But what would you do if the guy sending you potty was none other than Sergio Aguero

Manchester City's 38million striker isn't the kind of person you'd expect to bump into as you enjoy a post-work drink down your boozer.

Yet, at just before 6pm yesterday, that's exactly what happened in the Woodley Arms in Stockport.

Rumours had been circulating that the Argentina ace was going to pop in and around 100 locals got to see him up close.

City boss Roberto Mancini doesn't need to worry about Aguero's post-training habits, however. His visit was part of an advert being filmed by his sponsors Puma.

The player has already spent time being filmed on an all-weather pitch at a nearby sports centre before heading for his game of pool.

Aguero – who scored the winner in Monday's Manchester derby at Old Trafford – was brilliant with the City fans, signing autographs and posing for pictures before driving away in his Aston Martin Vanquish.

Jamie Taylor, manager of the Woodley Arms (and a confesses United fan), was delighted with his pub being used for the event.

He told the Manchester Evening News: 'You couldn’t say No, could you He’s a great player and I was as giddy as anyone when he came through the door.

'A lot of our regulars are City fans
so it’s been a great afternoon for them and something I’m sure we’ll be

'He
was pretty handy pool player as well. We’ve got a pool league down here
and if he fancies a regular game he’s welcome any time.'

Local Bob Marston, 70, added: 'Word was spreading like wildfire and I got the call and came straight down.

'I'm
off down to Wembley on Sunday – I was impressed with his pool skills
and hopefully he’ll be in similar form against Chelsea.'

I thought Paolo Di Canio was the new Sunderland manager! So why was it Newcastle boss Alan Pardew who was on the pitch at the Stadium of Light this afternoon

So too were his Newcastle players as they prepared for their Europa League quarter-final clash against Portuguese giants Benfica tomorrow night.

But fear not, Sunderland fans. It wasn't the Wearside Stadium of Light, but Benfica's fortress, named – in Portuguese, of course – the Estadio da Luz.

Pardew and Co are hoping to set themselves on course to a semi-final berth to add some gloss to an otherwise hapless season.

Despite being 15th in the Premier
League and by no means safe from relegation, Pardew says his side will
not let up in the European competition.

Pardew has even tapped up Celtic counterpart Neil Lennon for advice on how to get past the Portuguese side.

Speaking in Lisbon, Pardew said: 'We
have good contacts regarding this team. I know this city quite well and I
have some contacts here who know Benfica well.

'There is also Neil Lennon who we have been in contact with. I think it is important to get as much information as you can – as I'm sure Benfica have done with us.'

Graham Westley has made a shock return to Stevenage.

The 45-year-old, who led Boro into npower League One with back-to-back promotions, succeeds Gary Smith as manager after the former Colorado Rapids boss was relieved of his duties last week following a poor run of form.

Westley opted to leave Broadhall Way in January last year in an attempt to further his career at Preston, but his 13-month stay at Deepdale ended when he was sacked with North End sitting just five points above the relegation zone.

Stevenage, 10 points above the League One drop zone in 15th place, host bottom-placed Hartlepool on Monday looking for a first win in four outings.

Chairman Phil Wallace said: 'Graham was keen to come back to Stevenage and, although I met some strong candidates, without doubt I think he's the best man for the job right now. The club enjoyed a great deal of success before he left last year and we moved forwards significantly in his time here on several levels.

'Since he left we've continued that progress in people and infrastructure off the pitch. So we spent a lot of time this past week talking about things we feel we could do better this time round and we've put many of those into our contractual arrangement.

Over it: Chairman Phil Wallace has put his annoyance at the timing of Westley's exit aside

'There are a lot of myths about
Graham and the 9-5 one is the biggest. Yes, he demands a high work ethic
and commitment from his players but the extra hour or two some may do
is spent on personal development subjects. As long as a lad wants to
improve himself and win medals that's never been an issue at our club.

'I'm looking forward to some exciting
times again! This is the first time our season has ended in April for
four years and that's a measure of how far we've come and what we're
about.'

Kazakhstan corner on waterlogged football pitch – VIDEO

Disgruntled footballers have been known to blame the state of the pitch for a bad result.

But if these players in the Kazakhstani league were to put in a complaint it would probably be justified – after all taking a corner kick on a submerged football pitch is tricky work.

In a comical video posted on YouTube a footballer is seen being instructed by the referee to take the corner in what resembles the middle of a lake.

When he tries to throw it
to an area where the ball isn't at risk of floating away, he is ordered by the referee to replace it in the corner.

His team-mate comes over and the pair then improvise to try to get the ball in the box.

The corner taker, wearing No 10, kicks the ball up in the air and it is then caught by No 22 and kicked on to the pitch.

But the water reprieve does not last long – the ball is then kicked straight back into the water.

In the background a clean-up crew can be seen pumping water out of the water-logged pitch.

Some users who watched the video commented the game should have been called off as the referee was not unable to see the pitch markings.

Just one six was hit on the second day of the first Test between New Zealand and England and Dunedin – but one poor lad wore it right on his temple.

Having skittled England out for a pitiful 167, Kiwi openers Hamish Rutherford and Peter Fulton had seen off the new ball and were just settling into their stride when Monty Panesar was brought into the attack by Alastair Cook.

But while the watching public were waiting to see if the spinner could extract any turn from a decent pitch, one unlucky punter took his eye off the ball as the left-handed Rutherford sent the ball sailing over the long-on rope.

The ball clattered into the unsuspecting spectator's head but don't worry, he's OK, and he'll have it all on tape to look back on – once the swelling has gone down, of course.

Jack Rodwell suffered yet another setback in his injury-plagued Manchester City career after hobbling off the pitch at Villa Park this evening.

Little over 20 minutes into City's match against Paul Lambert's Aston Villa, Rodwell pulled up after letting fly with a powerful shot on Brad Guzan's goal.

The midfielder, who made his first start for City since September during their 2-0 win
over Chelsea last weekend, was tonight making his 11th appearance for the champions
this season, but was replaced by the club's top scorer Edin Dzeko
having limped off clutching his hamstring and holding his head in his hands.

The 21-year-old, who joined City in a
12million move from Everton last summer, spoke just last week about his
belief that he had put his injuries behind him.

The England international added that
he had harboured doubts about his ability to withstand the rigours of a
career in football having seen his short spell in the professional game marred
repeatedly by injury during his time on Merseyside and in Manchester.

Rodwell said ahead of City's clash against Chelsea: 'At Everton
last season I doubted whether I was built for it.

'To be honest, I did
think the worst but I had to take the positives and think I'm still
young and in a great position at one of the best teams in the world.

'I had between five and 10 setbacks,
and that's not just from the original injury. It's mentally hard. There
are times when you're set back again and you don't know what to do.

'Before the last five or six weeks I
used to go into training and was never confident. I was just praying I
got through it and that's just not the way to be at all.'

Police have launched an investigation after a banana was thrown at Gareth Bale during the north London derby.

Officers are working with Tottenham staff and reviewing CCTV to establish the identity of the supporter who launched the fruit at Bale from the Arsenal section as the forward attempted to take a corner in the 27th minute.

Assistant referee Darren Cann picked up the banana and removed it from the pitch but no further action appeared to be taken at the time.

The Metropolitan Police will prosecute the person responsible if located, given it is an offence to throw an object on to a football pitch.

Usually such action carries racist overtones, as when Mario Balotelli was taunted with inflatable bananas during the recent Milan derby, but in this case the yob supporter seemed to be mocking Bale’s appearance.

Those with Arsenal allegiances flocked to Twitter to give misguided congratulations to the culprit.

Danny O’Reagan wrote: ‘Whoever threw that banana at Gareth Bale is a legend.’

But Robin Bylund provided a reasoned voice when he replied sarcastically: ‘Arsenal “fans” throwing a banana towards Gareth Bale. How classy…’

The FA say they are awaiting a report from their crowd control adviser, who is likely to have noted down the incident, and will make every effort to identify the person responsible.

The act somewhat marred a thrilling game, which Spurs won 2-1, with striker Emmanuel Adebayor also taunted over the horrific shootings in Angola while on international duty with Togo in 2010.

When bananas are thrown on to football pitches they are usually in incidents with a racial connotation.

Inter Milan fans recently racially abused AC Milan striker Mario Balotelli by bringing inflatable bananas to the San Siro for their recent derby.
