The windscreen of the bus was broken and a number of paramedics and Yorkshire police attended to Cipriani, whose face was painted as part of his fancy dress costume.

Cipriani's manager James Williamson told The Sun: 'Danny’s spending the night in hospital. X-rays and scans will be carried out overnight.

'He’s obviously in pain. He was running across the road and just misjudged the speed of the bus.'

A bystander told the Leeds Student website: 'It was like a film, (the bus passengers) were all shook up and screaming.'

A
spokesperson for the First Bus company said today: 'A pedestrian
suddenly ran into the road and collided with a First Bus travelling at a
safe speed.

'The police have investigated this incident and have reported that First and its driver are not at fault.

'We understand the pedestrian is an England rugby international, and we wish him a speedy recovery.'

While in Australia he was under the spotlight for breaching team discipline on a number of occasions.

Season cut short

Cipriani will miss just the one remaining fixture for Sale this season. But it's a big one.

The Sharks were scheduled to face his former club Wasps at the Salford City Stadium on May 4.

Cipriani landed in hot water in 2011 for taking a bottle of vodka from the bar of a local nightspot without paying for it and was later stood down for a month for breaching team curfews and failing to turn up to training.

Cipriani and actress girlfriend Kelly Brook, 33, and recently rekindled their relationship after she split from former rugby star Thom Evans.

While he was on his pub crawl, the model and actress was filming the latest episode of TV show 'Celebrity Juice' at the Riverside studios in Hammersmith. She returned home after the filming.

So, just what is the Otley Run…

The Otley Run is a pub crawl which wings its way from the student-populated areas of Headingley in Leeds, back into the city centre campuses.

There is no defined route, but a number of pubs make up the traditional locations for the booze-filled student party.

It's a drunken all-dayer which typically sees those involved in fancy dress partying at up to 16 pubs heading into the city – and usually finishing up at one of the campus bars.

Roy Hodgson tells tube passengers Rio Ferdinand won"t play again

Rio's England career is at end of the line… the astonishing tube announcement Hodgson delivered to fellow passengers on way to Arsenal match

Roy Hodgson is facing major embarrassment over claims he announced the end of Rio Ferdinand’s international career to passengers on a London tube train.

The England manager is due to discuss his squad at a press conference at Wembley on Thursday morning and Ferdinand, 33, is not expected to be among those selected for this month’s World Cup double header against San Marino and Poland.

But telling members of the public on a Jubilee Line train on Wednesday night – Hodgson was travelling to Arsenal for their Champions League game – that Ferdinand had reached ‘the end of the road’, as the reports claim, will be seen as shoddy treatment of a former England captain.

Hodgson is reported as saying, when asked whether Ferdinand would be in the squad: ‘I very much doubt it. He hasn’t played for England for quite a while. I have to say it is over for him and England.

‘It has got to be the end of the road. He is pushing 34 and hasn’t played for England for a long, long time.’

Ferdinand, capped 81 times, had not given up on an England recall, and his hopes were raised after John Terry’s decision to quit international football.

But Hodgson appeared to put an end to that with Wednesday’s indiscreet confession.

The manager, meanwhile, has assured West Ham he will take no risks with Andy Carroll when he names him in his squad on Thursday.

Hodgson has no plans to start the most expensive English footballer in history against either San Marino or Poland. He is a huge admirer of the 23-year-old but also acknowledges that he has played less than 20 minutes of football since returning from a hamstring injury.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce had said he would speak to Hodgson to voice his concerns and it seems has been heeded. Earlier this week Allardyce said: ‘I would speak to Roy and just give him the full rundown on Andy’s lack of match fitness.

‘He’s only come back from the Euros and his holidays and played twice for Liverpool. He’s played 68 minutes for us then played 20 minutes on his return from injury. So he’s woefully short of match practice, which is a delicate thing for a manager to have to deal with.

Out of the running: Terry won't be available to Hodgson after retiring

‘I’m sure Roy would deal with that in
the right way. He’s certainly not ready for 90 minutes but it would give
him some match practice so long as it’s done sensibly.’

Hodgson could spring one or two surprises in his squad. It is understood he has been giving consideration to West Ham midfielder Mark Noble, who has been outstanding this season — so much so that England coach Gary Neville made him his man of the match for Sky on Monday night when West Ham beat QPR.

Appeal: Hodgson could turn his attentions to Spurs centre-half Dawson

His choice of centre halves could also be interesting. With Terry having retired and Ferdinand apparently not an option, the search for a fourth central defender to join Joleon Lescott, Gary Cahill and Phil Jagielka looks like a difficult one.

With Phil Jones and Chris Smalling injured, Stoke’s Ryan Shawcross and Tottenham’s Michael Dawson are thought to be in contention.

Gavin Henson sacked by Cardiff Blues for incident on plane

Henson's career in doubt after being sacked by Cardiff over 7am plane booze binge

Gavin Henson has been sacked by Cardiff Blues after admitting an all-night drinking session which finished with him allegedly throwing ice cubes at plane passengers.

The one-time Wales star issued a grovelling apology on Sunday and hoped that would be enough to save his job, and possibly his career.

But Henson's fate was sealed when he attended a disciplinary hearing on Monday morning.

It is understood Henson went out in Glasgow city centre after Cardiff's match on Friday night and did not return to the team's hotel until 5am for a 7am flight.

HENSON CONTROVERSIES

October 2005: Henson releases a book entitled 'My Grand Slam Year' chronicling Wales' Six Nations success and his experiences on the Lions tour of New Zealand. Comments about other players and life in the Wales camp mean he is forced to apologise in front of his team-mates.

December 2005: Henson is cited for elbowing Leicester prop Alex Moreno in a Heineken Cup game between the two sides, Henson is initially banned for 10 weeks and two days, which is reduced to seven weeks on appeal.

December 2007: Henson is charged with disorderly conduct over his behaviour on a train after helping Ospreys beat Harlequins in the Anglo-Welsh Cup. The case is later dropped.

April 2011: Having left the Ospreys for Saracens and then moved on to Toulon, things appear to be looking up for Henson when he scores a try on his debut for the French club. But after his second appearance against Toulouse he is involved in an altercation with two team-mates in a nightclub and is suspended for a week.

March 2012: Henson is suspended by Cardiff Blues following an incident on the flight back from Scotland after their match against Glasgow Warriors the previous night. He later apologises for drinking and 'behaving inappropriately'.

Cardiff Blues CEO Richard Holland said in a statement: 'The Cardiff Blues management have discussed the matter at length but have acted swiftly since the incident occurred on Saturday morning.

'Gavin admitted himself that his behaviour was totally unacceptable and the immediate termination of his contract sends out a clear message that behaviour like that will not be tolerated at the Blues.

'We have a duty to our supporters and sponsors to protect the good name of Cardiff Blues and those associated with our brand.

'Gavin Henson is obviously a talented rugby player and it's unfortunate that his career at the Blues has ended this way.

'However, we would like to thank him for his service and wish him the best of luck with his future career.'

Henson had earlier said in a
statement via his management company: 'I stupidly carried on drinking
during the flight, for which I am truly embarrassed.

'I can see that drinking and behaving
inappropriately on that flight as a professional sportsman at 7am has
caused offence to members of the public, the Flybe airline staff and
passengers.

'I know that I have let my
team-mates, coaches, management, sponsors and indeed my family down with
my actions. Drinking on that plane was inexcusable and I know that I
must take responsibility for it.

'I also accept that in the light of this I need to learn from it and ensure this does not happen again.

'I am prepared to co-operate 100 per
cent with the Cardiff Blues wishes and will do everything that I need to
do in order to make amends and enable the Blues to focus on our biggest
game of the season next weekend.

'I remain fully focused and committed to Cardiff Blues and I hope they can accept my apology.'

Flybe are also investigating the
incident and released a statement saying: 'Flybe can confirm that it is
gathering information from its own staff as well as those at both
airports and will make no further comment at this time.'

Henson is no stranger to controversy.
Last May he left Toulon following a bust-up with teammates. In December
2007 he had been accused of disorderly conduct on a train, following a
game at Harlequins.

Two years later he was cautioned by
police investigating an alleged assault, while in 2005, following the
Grand Slam triumph, he was questioned by Wales team officials for an
incident in a pub.

Apology: Henson issued a statement on Sunday

Henson had vowed to revive his career
when he signed for Saracens in December 2010 following a period on the
sidelines to overcome injury and personal problems surrounding his
marriage to singer Charlotte Church.

But he stayed only two months at
Saracens before he joined Toulon for that troubled stay. After missing
out on World Cup selection last September with a wrist injury, he signed
for Cardiff on a short-term basis just before last Christmas.

Blues would have hoped Henson would
be a candidate to take over from Wales centre Jamie Roberts for
Saturday's Heineken Cup quarter-final against Leinster in Dublin.

Roberts faces a scan today after he injured a knee again in Friday's match.
