Former world champion Scott Harrison has been arrested in connection with an alleged theft at a supermarket in Glasgow.

The 34-year-old and another man were taken in by police after allegedly stealing food from a Tesco store in Dalmarncok Road, Rutherglen in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A witness told the Daily Record: 'Two men were shouting and swearing, even at each other, and although the store was in no way busy at 2.30 in the morning, other customers were keeping their heads down.

‘They were opening food packets and helping themselves while shouting at staff and other customers.’

Harrison has not fought since 2005 but was due to make his comeback in Blackpool next week after claiming earlier this month to have beaten the booze.

He became WBO featherweight champion in 2002, lost to Manuel Medina the following July but regained the title in November 2003.

The Scot has had problems with depression and alcohol and was stripped of his title and licence to box in 2006 after failing to make the weight for a fight with Nicky Cook.

A police spokeswoman said: ‘At around 2.20am a 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with an alleged theft and public order offences at Dalmarnock Road, Rutherglen. Another 34-year-old man was arrested for alleged road traffic offences and detained.’

Harrison was released after a few hours in custody.

Striker Daniel Sturridge, who failed a fitness test on the morning of the Wolves game, has had treatment on his hip.

The new year has already brought controversy for Terry after his face seems to have been pictured on cigarette packets in India.

The blurred image above the 'smoking kills' warning bears a remarkable resemblance to Terry, who is considering legal action.

A spokesman for Elite Management, who represent the defender, said no permission had been given for the use of his image to promote an anti-smoking drive.

KS Dhatwalia, additional secretary of the Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity, said: 'How Terry's picture got to be used is not clear.'

John Terry is taking legal action over the apparent use of his picture on cigarette packets in India.

The image features the head and shoulders of a man who looks very much like Chelsea captain Terry and sits above a 'Smoking Kills' warning.

Keith Cousins of Elite Management,
Terry's representatives, said: 'We have reviewed this
matter with our client and have instructed solicitors to take
appropriate action.'

The Indian government's directorate of visual publicity created the image but, according to the Indian Express, there is confusion over how it was used.

'We sent the creative to the health ministry and they then cleared it and circulated it,' said director of visual publicity additional secretary KS Dhatwalia. 'But how Terry's picture got to be used is not clear.'
