Now, we definitely don't subscribe to the old adage of women and the inability to drive, but there was more than a eyebrow or two raised when Porsche chose their first ever global endorser as Mario Sharapova, especially when statistics claims 88 per cent of 911 buyers are men.

The powerful Russian tennis star, known for her deafening grunt on the court, will front up campaigns for the German car maker for the next three years.

'Maria is the perfect choice,' said Porsche CEO Matthias Mueller. 'Her profile and charisma are an ideal fit for Porsche.'

Porsche join the likes of Nike, Evian, Tag Heuer and Samsung in partnering up with one of the most marketable sportstars in the world, taking Sharapova's revenue for endorsements alone beyond 20million a year.

As well as her tennis and multitude of
other endorsements, the Russian is currently keeping the money rolling
in with her Sugarpova sweets, which have sold more than 1.5 million bags
in six months.

To celebrate the latest launch, Sharapova, who previously had a deal with Land Rover in 2006, posed with the stunning vehicles in Stuttgart, where it is manufactured.

The event coincides with her arrival for the defence of her Porsche Tennis Grand Prix crown, which takes place in the city this month.

Miroslav Klose insists he is fully fit and determined to guide Germany to Euro 2012 glory.

Lazio striker Klose, who is five goals short of Gerd Mueller's German record of 68 international goals, missed five weeks towards the end of last season with a thigh injury.

The 33-year-old, who will be playing in his sixth consecutive international tournament, took part in Germany's two warm-up games and has allayed fears he will not be able to give his all in Poland and Ukraine.

Joachim Low's side are among the
favourites to win the competition and Klose is confident of success,
despite their extremely difficult group which also features Portugal,
Holland and Denmark.

'I have a very good feeling we are well prepared and have a great team,' added Klose, who turns 34 on Saturday when Germany face Portugal.

The Portuguese are third favourites to progress from the group due to their supposed over-reliance on Cristiano Ronaldo and Klose has warned this weekend's opponents they will have to work hard to beat the three-time European champions this weekend.

He added: 'Portugal is not only Cristiano Ronaldo, they must also play as a team. If they want to beat us, they do it only as a team.'

Lionel Messi broke a 39-year record for the most goals in a single European season on Wednesday night, scoring for the 68th time this campaign to eclipse former Bayern Munich striker Gerd Mueller.

The Barcelona forward set the mark with his third goal in the 4-1 victory over Malaga at the Nou Camp, the strike completing his ninth hat-trick of the season and surpassing the 67-goal mark Mueller set for Bayern during the 1972-73 season.

But it was a bittersweet night for Messi as Real Madrid ended Barca's three-year stranglehold on the Spanish league title, a 3-0 win at Athletic Bilbao confirming their first crown since 2008.

The record goal came after Andres Iniesta sent Messi clear into Malaga's half, the Argentina forward then chipped onrushing goalkeeper Carlos Kameni before slotting the ball into the open net.

Messi's took his league total to 46 goals, also a record and three more than Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi's 34th-minute spot kick allowed him to match the 66-goal tallies by Pele for Brazilian club Santos in 1958 and Ferenc Deak for Hungarian team Ferencvaros in 1948-49.

Malaga midfielder Duda barged into Messi to set up his second successful penalty and match Mueller. Messi surpassed the former West Germany striker when Iniesta slipped a perfect long ball between defenders.

He has scored three goals in the Spanish Super Cup, a pair in both the Club World Cup and the Copa del Rey, and once in the European Super Cup.
