Leeds target Southampton striker Rickie Lambert

Leeds ready to splash the cash on Southampton striker Lambert

Rickie Lambert is the surprise name on Neil Warnock's wishlist for Leeds following the club's takeover by Dubai-based group GFH.

Warnock hopes to sign six players in January after GFH completed a reported 17million purchase from Ken Bates on Friday.

Target: Southampton striker Rickie Lambert

Signing strikers is Warnock's priority, with Southampton's Lambert and Brighton's Craig Mackail-Smith lined up as targets.

Lambert, 30, started the season on the Southampton bench but has scored six Premier League goals this season. However, he may be allowed to leave if the club sign other players.

Lambert has scored more than a goal every two games for Southampton and got his first chance to play in the Premier League this season after years in the lower reaches with Blackpool, Macclesfield, Stockport, Bristol Rovers and Rochdale.

However, the ambitions of Leeds may tempt him.

Mackail-Smith would cost Warnock around 1.5m.

Daily Mail School"s Rugby: King"s School Macclesfield unbeaten

King's must mind their Manners after making a blistering start to U18s Cup

King’s School, Macclesfield, are among the form teams in this season’s Daily Mail RBS Schools' Cup after an unbeaten start.

The Cheshire school, whose autumn scalps in regular fixtures include a first over mighty Sedbergh, meet Derbyshire champions Lady Manners next Wednesday as cup games resume after the half-term break.

Head coach Guy Mason puts the nine wins down to hard work triggered by a successful tour of Canada in the summer.

‘We are a little bit surprised because we were pretty disappointed last season,’ he explained about a campaign which brought a fourth-round, 12-50, exit to Lymm, in the Under 18s cup.

On the attack: King's break

King’s record this season is among the best in the country. So far they have accounted for Grange School, Northwich, and Sandbach in the cup while wins on the regular circuit include not only Sedbergh but QEGS Wakefield, RGS Lancaster, Manchester GS and Woodhouse Grove.

The school is maintaining its link to Sale – led by ex-England scrum-half Steve Smith – through former hooker Tommy Taylor who has become a regular member of the Premiership club’s squad.

And this season Jack Sadler, the captain and No 8, plus lock Jonny Kenny, a member of the England Under 18 squad, are among a number of players combining school commitments and Sale’s academy demands.

Kenny was a member of the King’s team who lost 25-3 in the final of the Daily Mail Under 15s vase in 2009 to The Leys School, Cambridge.

‘It would be great for the school to get back to Twickenham, but there’s a long way to go before we can think about that and Lady Manners will be difficult opponents,’ Mason added.

The Derbyshire comprehensive, based in the Peak District town of Bakewell, have plenty to shout about after six age-grade teams were crowned county champions last season.

Week of destiny: King's U15s are also unbeaten

A trip to King’s comes after a tense 23-22 third-round win over Sir John Deane’s College, Northwich, secured through a last-ditch penalty by fly half Tom Hutchinson.

‘It was the last play of the game,’ explained head coach Robert Allen. ‘They had taken the lead, but we managed to regain it through a penalty.’

Allen hopes outside centre Rory Chambers and flanker Tom Cruttenden will maintain their impressive starts to the season.

Paul Ince and Ray Lewington could join Roy Hodgson"s England team

Roy Hodgson wants to bring Paul Ince and Ray Lewington into his England set-up.

Former England captain Ince, 44, is considering an offer of a coaching role, while ex-Fulham and Watford boss Lewington has also been approached.

Lewington, 55, is one of Hodgson's trusted lieutenants, having been his assistant at Craven Cottage, where he still works under Martin Jol.

Ince has been out of work since leaving Notts County over a year ago.

Hodgson, who was unveiled as Fabio Capello's permanent successor on Tuesday at Wembley, wants to bring in at least one coach before Euro 2012.

Stuart Pearce had guided England between Capello's exit and Hodgson's appointment, and has been expected to retain a prominent role in the set-up under Hodgson.

But the Team GB boss's role may now come into question should both Ince and Lewington get jobs on Hodgson's staff.

An FA spokesman said: 'Roy has not decided on his backroom team yet.'

Ince was known for his fighting qualities in the centre of midfield, most famously for England, Manchester United and Liverpool, and has gone on to manage County, Macclesfield, MK Dons and Blackburn.

Rotherham have sacked manager Andy Scott after less than a year in charge.

The Millers are eight points adrift of the npower League Two play-offs with nine games to go and with promotion looking unlikely, chairman Tony Stewart has removed Scott from his position.

Saturday's defeat at Oxford effectively
spelled the end of their play-off ambitions, but the move still comes as
something as shock as Scott was interviewed live on Sky Sports News
earlier on Monday afternoon regarding his heart condition that ended his
playing career aged just 32 and he carried out his usual pre-match
press requirements this morning.

A club statement read: 'Rotherham United have this afternoon parted company with first-team manager Andy Scott.

'The club would like to place on record our thanks for Andy's time and effort whilst he has been with Rotherham United, and we wish him well for the future.

'The club have now started the search for a new manager.'

Scott was only appointed last April following the dismissal of Ronnie Moore, who left with the club in the play-off positions last March, but after receiving a hefty budget and touting his team for a promotion challenge he has been unable to deliver.

The Millers play Macclesfield on Tuesday night, but it is currently unclear who will take charge.

The npower League Two outfit are yet to taste victory in 2012 and Saturday's defeat to fellow strugglers Dagenham stretched their winless run to 16 matches in all competitions.

Simpson took over as manager at the Moss Rose two years ago following the death of Keith Alexander, who he worked under as assistant, and he leaves with the Silkmen outside the League Two relegation zone on goal difference.

A statement on Macclesfield's official website read: 'Following a sequence of results that has left Macclesfield Town without a win in 2012, the club's board has asked Gary Simpson to step down from his role as manager.'

Chairman Mike Rance added: 'It is with great regret that we've had to make this decision.

'We've been through an immense amount together over the last two years and we owe Gary a real debt of gratitude for the dignity and commitment he has shown through a difficult time.'
