Nuri Sahin set for Liverpool exit after Borussia Dortmund call press conference

Sahin completes Anfield exit as Dortmund re-sign Kop flop

, but will now spend the rest of the campaign with Borussia Dortmund, the side with whom he won the 2011 German championship.

'The Real Madrid man made a total of 12 appearances for the Reds, scoring three goals – including a match-winning brace against West Brom in the Capital One Cup.

'Everybody at LFC would like to wish Nuri all the best for the future.'

Sahin, 24, never made the impact Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was hoping for and has not played in the Premier League since early November.

He alienated Rodgers by complaining that he was being used out of position, and from that point on, Liverpool were looking for ways to get him off their wage bill.

Dortmund were happy to oblige and have put together a package that has reunited Sahin with coach Jurgen Klopp, who brought the best out of him during their first stint at the Westfalenstadion.

Nuri Sahin has backed Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers to follow the Jurgen Klopp route to the top.

Sahin, who joined Liverpool on a year-long loan from Real Madrid in the summer, was part of the Borussia Dortmund team who won successive titles under Klopp in 2011 and 2012.

Klopp took a while to put his own stamp on Dortmund after arriving in 2008 and Sahin expects Rodgers to do the same at Anfield.

'It will take time to take Liverpool back to where it wants to be,' Sahin told Liverpool FC Magazine.

'When Klopp came we did not have a squad to be champions.

'He changed a lot, bringing his own philosophy in. It took a while for everybody to follow it.

'He had to be calm and consistent. If you go on this way, in the first two or three weeks, okay, you might not get the results, but in the long-term it will go your way if you don't change it.

'The club gave Klopp the time to do this and it worked out very well. As a character he is a person who relates to the player.

'I can see Brendan doing the same. Brendan's character was very influential in me coming here.'

Manchester City's Champions League dreams were given a shot in the arm by a late Mario Balotelli equaliser against Borussia Dortmund.

Jack Rodwell gave the ball away to Marco Reus in the second-half and he rampaged in to strike what looked to be the winning goal until a late penalty was awarded to City for handball.

Balotelli coolly converted it to earn his side a point they did not deserve from a game they played badly in.

Joe Hart made several superb saves to keep Dortmund out and they also hit the crossbar and post as City's goal led a charmed life.

More to follow.

Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski says he is fully focused on the upcoming season and not thinking about a move to England.

The 23-year-old, who starred for Poland at Euro 2012, has been monitored by Manchester United and Chelsea throughout the summer and is also a target for Bayern Munich.

But Lewandowski, who netted 22 league goals last season as Dortmund retained their Bundesliga title, insists he is going nowhere.

'I have two years on my deal at Borussia Dortmund and I am still a player at this club,' he told Polish newspaper Przeglad Sportowy.

'We have a competitive match this coming weekend and that’s all that matters to me. I am totally focused on the new season and not what could happen in the future.'

Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp has also moved to dampen the speculation surrounding Lewnadowski, slamming the player's agents.

'Robert is an exceptional player. He will always be in my squads. Unfortunately his agents will not, there is no doubt about that,' Klopp said.
