After Suarez’s effort made it 4-0 yesterday, Sturridge netted Liverpool’s fifth with a penalty, leaving the England forward’s record since joining the Reds from Chelsea in January showing five goals in seven appearances in all competitions.

Barrow will investigate allegations that Macclesfield captain Nat Brown was racially abused by fans during Tuesday’s 1-1 FA Cup draw.

Macclesfield boss Steve King claimed that Brown had been called 'a monkey' during their second-round tie at Holker Street.

The incident is likely to be included in referee David Webb’s report.

King said: 'He got called a monkey by some of the fans behind the goal.

'He said to the ref, “he's called me a monkey and that's not acceptable”.

'I heard it when I was coming out with Nat Brown.

'It seems to be happening everywhere.'

As for whether Brown wanted to take the matter further, King said: 'It's up to Browny – he said leave it but the ref [David Webb] wants to report it because it's not acceptable.

'We're in 2012 – what's all that about'

Barrow chairman Brian Keen told BBC Radio Cumbria: 'It’s just unacceptable and it will be looked into.

'The results will be known to people once we find out who or what it was. We, at Barrow, won’t have it and we will look into it really seriously.'

Liverpool are confident of finalising a 6million deal for Blackpool’s Tom Ince and will look to add Chelsea’s Daniel Sturridge for a further 12m.

Arsenal’s reluctance to sell Theo Walcott in January, regardless of his contract negotiations, will delay any possible move from Liverpool until the summer, although the player may yet receive offers from elsewhere with Juventus, Chelsea and Manchester City keen.

Ince, 20, left Liverpool for 250,000 compensation in August last year and has 18 months left on his contract. He has attracted attention from other clubs but Liverpool are willing to pay the asking price.

Blackpool, who have signed Bournemouth striker Wes Thomas, 25, until January 1, have allowed another forward, Adda Djeziri, 24, to join Scunthorpe.

Manchester City are looking to beat Manchester United and Real Madrid to Dinamo Zagreb's record-breaking midfielder Alen Halilovic.

A three-man delegation from City travelled to Croatia this week to negotiate with Zagreb over the 16-year-old who is already being touted as the next Luka Modric.

The diminutive Halilovic has recently been allowed to train with Real Madrid and, as Sportsmail revealed last month, is attracting keen interest from Manchester United and Barcelona.

City want to head off competition and
strike a deal now for around 6million but Zagreb believe they can make
much more on Halilovic in the future and may only agree a transfer
layered with future sell-on clauses.

Halilovic only turned professional in
June and made his first team debut in September becoming the youngest
debutant in the history of Dinamo Zagreb, at the age of 16 years and 102
days.

He became the league's youngest
goalscorer the following week when he came off the bench to score in a
4-1 win over Slaven Belupo. He then became the club's youngest ever
player to feature in a Champions League match when he played against PSG
in October.

Jimmy Bullard was always going to be up for a bit of larking around.

The interview was to take place in Cobham and as Jimmy is a keen fisherman we decided to look for a picturesque shot down by the river.

He spent his time looking for places to fish while I set my gear up. When the lights were turned on Jimmy jumped for the camera, kicking an imaginary ball.

It’s the expression on his face which makes this a good picture, as he appears to float above the river.
