'Before the ball’s kicked, he’s not doing anything. He’s entitled to stand where he likes. So he’s talking nonsense.

'We were getting hauled back and the referee is looking straight at it.

'Are the rules different in Spain and Italy to what they are in Britain On that showing they must be.'

Striker Georgios Samaras echoed Lennon's words, saying he hopes the referee in the second leg can deal with the antics better.

'It wasn't fair, I think everybody saw that,' said Samaras, who missed the first leg. 'It is how they defend set-pieces, like most Italian teams.

'Hopefully, the referee will have his eyes more open tomorrow and see clearly what's going on and it can be a fair game.'

With his side being three goals ahead in the tie, Juventus boss Conte is likely to leave out defender Giorgio Chiellini who made his return from injury in the 1-1 draw with Napoli on Friday night after for nearly three months.

Martin Caceres and Nicolas Anelka (both back) are also a doubt, while Paolo De Ceglie, Nicklas Bendtner and Simone Pepe (all thigh) are all long-term injuries.

Celtic need a miracle, and were boosted by Georgios Samaras returning during the 2-1 defeat away to Motherwell in the SPL last Wednesday.

However, Scott Brown's ongoing abductor problems will force him to miss the trip. Swedish fullback Mikael Lustig (thigh) also looks set to sit the game out. Lennon hopes Charlie Mulgrew can feature at some stage after injury.

‘Charlie’s all right,’ said Lennon. ‘He trained yesterday but that was his first proper training session, so it might be a bit much to stick him in straight away. We’ll see how he is.’

Michel Platini has written off any chances Celtic may have of Champions League progress.

The UEFA president told delegates at the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai that Neil Lennon’s next opposition – Serie A leaders Juventus – are guaranteed to be in the quarter-finals.

‘If we look at the Champions League draw, it’s clear that Juventus are already through to the quarter finals,’ the Frenchman said.

The Hoops have had a sensational run in the European competition so far, miraculously giant-killing both Barcelona and Spartak Moscow to earn a place in the last 16.

The Turin side, meanwhile, will be without defender Giorgio Chiellini for the double header.

Platini won six titles as an attacking midfielder, including the European Cup in 1985 and two Scuddetti.

The son of Italian ancestry, Platini’s father was an immigrant from Agrate Conturbia in the province of Novara, and the football chief has long-standing affection for Italian football.

‘Of course, Juve has always been and will always be the team of my heart, where among other things, I won everything at club level.

‘I have been very fortunate in football. I played in the strongest teams for both Nancy and Saint-Etienne, and finally in Juventus, which is the strongest team in the world.’

David Stone successfully defended his Paralympic Games title with victory in the mixed T1-2 road race at Brands Hatch on Saturday.

The 31-year-old relinquished his time-trial title on Wednesday and was disappointed with bronze.

Stone, who has cerebral palsy and rides a tricycle, bounced back in the 24-kilometre road race to win his third Paralympic gold medal, seven seconds ahead of Italy's Giorgio Farroni. David Vondracek of the Czech Republic was three minutes 17 seconds behind in third.

Injured Italy trio Daniele De Rossi, Ignazio Abate and Giorgio Chiellini are undergoing intensive physiotherapy to try to be fit for Thursday's Euro 2012 semi-final with Germany.

Team doctor Enrico Castellacci refused to rule any of the three in or out, even remaining cautious on Chiellini's chances despite the centre back training normally after a thigh problem.

'We are doing eveything possible,' Castellacci said.

Chiellini is likely to come in for Leonardo Bonucci in the middle of the defence.

Midfielder De Rossi and right back Abate came off with muscle injuries in the quarter-final against England.

The dynamic De Rossi, who also has a sciatic nerve problem, would likely be replaced by fellow tough tackler Antonio Nocerino but coach Cesare Prandelli has a big decision to make if Abate is not fit for the Warsaw game.

Fellow right-back Christian Maggio is suspended so Prandelli could either move a centre half like Bonucci or Andrea Barzagli to the right or change to the three at the back used in the opening two group games.

Maggio played right wing back in those games so Prandelli may have to ask winger Fabio Borini, unused so far, to operate more defensively.
