Arsenal and Manchester City look to have missed on Borussia Dortmund star Mario Gotze after reports in Germany claimed he has agreed to join Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of the most coveted talents in Europe but it is the Bavarian giants who look to have won the race after triggering the forward's €37million (32m) release clause.

The Germany international has, according to Bild, already signed a long-term deal with $7m a year (6m).

Gotze, who could face his new employees in the Champions League final at Wembley on May 25, has scored 14 goals for his club this season and has won 22 caps for Germany.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger had been prepared to finally splash the cash this summer and meet the Gotze's clause but he will now have to look elsewhere.

The youngster had looked set to remain at the Westfalenstadion
for another year having apparently set his sights on a move to Barcelona.

‘I am very happy at Dortmund and
satisfied with the way we are progressing as a team,’ he said earlier this month. ‘Any
thoughts about playing for another team are very much for the future,
but Real Madrid, Barcelona or Manchester United could be interesting.

'But I'm not thinking of that at the moment.

Castleford Tigers have parted company with head coach Ian Millward following a miserable run of form that sees them languishing at the bottom of Super League.

The 52-year-old Australian has paid the price for the Tigers poor run which has personally seen him collect only seven victories in his 38 Super League games in charge.

Millward's assistant Stuart Donlan has also left the club and Tigers legend Danny Orr, who joined the coaching staff in the summer, will now take charge for their match against Widnes on Saturday.

Castleford lost 24-44 to Huddersfield Giants on Saturday to leave the club rock bottom of Super League with just one win and one draw from their 11 matches.

Former Wakefield Wildcats coach John Kear, who is currently in charge of Championship side Batley and ex-Hull KR coach Justin Morgan are among the names who have been linked with the role.

A statement on the club's official site said: 'Following a meeting with Ian Millward, both parties agreed that he should relinquish his position as head coach,'

'After a promising start to the 2013 season, recent results have been unacceptable for all concerned, including sponsors and supporters.'

Millward had been appointed in 2011 to succeed Terry Matterson at Wheldon Road but after narrowly avoiding the wooden spoon last year, the club have decided to act after a poor set of results this term.

Although still early in the season, 2013 has been a turbulent one for the West Yorkshire club after Chief Executive Steve Ferres walked out of his job after only seven months due to differences of opinion with the board of directors.

His shock resignation was soon followed by commercial manager Nick Fozzard to leave the Tigers in disarray.

Head of youth development Steve Gill was appointed as CEO to steady the ship on an interim role in March but was given on the position on a permanent basis earlier this week.

His first task will now be to find a successor for Millward as the Tigers look to save their season.

Juventus have renewed their efforts to sign Liverpool forward Luis Suarez.

The Italian giants, who were interested in recruiting Suarez and Robin van Persie last summer, are in discussions with the Uruguayan's agent about a possible €30m (25.6m) transfer after their previous efforts ended when he extended his Liverpool contract until 2018.

Juve manager Antonio Conte, according to Sportmediaset, is thought to see Suarez as the ideal strike partner for the incoming Fernando Llorente and given the Spaniard is arriving for free has money to spend.

Director general Beppe Marotta confirmed at the weekend that Juve had ended their interest in re-signing Zlatan Ibrahimovic due to concerns over both his age and wage demands and Suarez, 26, would represent a considerably more affordable option.

Any approach for the Uruguay forward has the potential to seriously undermine the plans of Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, who this season has made good progress with his team and has done so largely by focusing on Suarez's talents.

Jack Wilshere arrived at Arsenal's training ground on Friday in a flashy Ferrari to match team-mate Theo Walcott's wheels.

The 21-year-old sported the same model of the famous Italian car as Walcott did last week as Arsenal fine-tuned their preparations for the north London derby at their Colney base on Friday.

The Gunners make the short trip across north London on Sunday to take on their arch-rivals Tottenham in a potentially make-or-break clash.

Last month, Manchester United players arrived for work in a fleet of brand new Chevrolets as part of a 357m sponsorship with the American car giants.

David Beckham has openly admitted that his move to Paris St Germain hinged on his ability to sell shirts.

The former England captain joined the French giants in January before making his debut against Marseille on Sunday.

And speaking on Canal Plus show Grande Journal on Thursday night, Beckham revealed one of his main jobs is now to shift club merchandise.

'If I can help to sell lots of shirts, no problem,' said Beckham. 'It's great to see so many people wearing my shirt.

'In most of the clubs where I've been, I heard the same thing, that I've come to sell shirts.'

Meanwhile, Beckham, who was busy endearing himself to the French public with an appearance alongside the legendary Zinedine Zidane on Thursday, expects Cristiano Ronaldo to be at his best when he returns to Old Trafford with Real Madrid next week.

The Spanish champions travel to Manchester United for the second leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Tuesday and Beckham, who was replaced by Ronaldo at United and eventually in Madrid, believes the atmosphere will inspire the Portuguese on his first appearance at the club since his 2009 departure.

'When you go back, you enjoy the occasion, of course, and I am sure it will inspire Cristiano,' said Beckham, who first played against United when with AC Milan in 2010, seven years after leaving.

'Many things inspire great players and him going back will be a special night for him. 'The fans love him and it will be a great occasion.'

Offended: Sandro Rosell slammed Manchester City

Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has claimed Manchester City have tried to lure a number of people to the Etihad Stadium from the Nou Camp.

Rosell says the Barclays Premier League champions have not only tried to sign players from all levels of the club's structure, but also other employees of the Catalan giants.

Former Barcelona directors Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain are now at City as chief executive and director of football respectively.

Rosell, speaking to RAC1 and quoted
in Marca, said: 'There have been some offensive approaches from City, at
all levels of the structure of the club, but no one wants to go.

'They wanted to fish here, but there
were no fish left. We're talking about people at all levels of the Barca
structure, not just players. Their attempts have been unsuccessful,
though, as our employees are happy here.

'There have been contacts, but we have a fantastic group of people and nobody wants to go.'

He added: 'I had hoped that he (Begiristain) would not use the information he gathered about Barcelona during his time here to help another club become bigger, but he seems to disagree with me.

'I would like it if the relationship between both clubs was a bit better and more transparent.'

Liverpool loan move for David Villa rejected by Barcelona

Liverpool have been rebuffed in a bold attempt to take Barcelona striker David Villa on loan.

The 31-year-old is frustrated at the Nou Camp due to his lack of game time and is keen to come to England.

However, Barcelona will not entertain the idea of letting the Spain international go out on loan and will only consider a bumper transfer offer to sell in this window.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has already agreed a deal with Chelsea for Daniel Sturridge and is advanced with talks over a move for Thomas Ince. However, that deal has dragged because Blackpool want 6million for a player they bought from Liverpool for 250,000 18 months ago.

Villa was seen as a player of quality and experience who could share the burden with Luis Suarez and fit into Rodgers' ideal 4-3-3 formation having also played on the left for Barcelona and Spain.

The move would have been an exception to Liverpool's normal guidelines with the club reluctant to bring in players who are over the age of 24.

Arsenal were interested in Villa but are reluctant to become embroiled in another bidding war with Barcelona having been told the price would be at least 16m.

Chelsea have been sounded out also but Rafa Benitez is unlikely to move for Villa with other options still ahead of him, despite the breakdown in the move for Demba Ba.

Villa has made 17 appearances for Barca this season and scored five goals. However, he would also be cup-tied in Europe having figured against Spartak Moscow, Celtic and Benfica in the Champions League.

Tottenham Hotspur have said Gareth Bale will cost Real Madrid a whopping 60million.

The new price tag is almost double the 33m bid which Marca claimed Real were piecing together earlier in the week.

Ronaldo has refused to sign a contract extension and could pressure Madrid into releasing him for a fraction of his 80m transfer from Manchester United.

While he has been linked to a possible return to Old Trafford, Bale remains Madrid’s number one transfer target.

They are keen to secure a deal before the end of the season and are desperate to avoid the dragged-out negotiations they waded through over Luka Modric.

Spurs, however, are unlikely to support a smooth and painless transfer, despite having signed a so-called partnership agreement with Real as part of Modric’s sale.

Chairman Daniel Levy’s valuation has catapulted Bale into the same bracket as Lionel Messi, Ronaldo and Radamel Falcao.

‘Real are prepared to push very hard for Gareth and there are not too many better players in the world than him right now,’ a source said.

Manchester United are braced to receive a 22million bid for David De Gea in the summer from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Iker Casillas was dropped in Real’s game against Malaga, and it seems Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for a long-term replacement for the Spain captain.

The two are known to have a stormy relationship at the club, and although 31-year-old Casillas has previously said he’d like to finish his career at Real, recent comments have indicated that he might be open to a move.

De Gea was signed by United as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar for over 18million.

The Spain Under-21 is now the top target for Madrid boss Mourinho, according to The Sun.

A Real insider said: ‘De Gea is definitely wanted by Mourinho but a lot depends on his own future.

‘But he’s studied De Gea’s form closely and is very interested.’
