Newcastle star Guthrie sees his wedding turn into 'mass brawl'

Police were twice called to the wedding of Newcastle United's Danny Guthrie

The 40,000 wedding of a Premier League footballer Danny Guthrie descended into violence last weekend, when police were twice called out to the stately home where it was hosted.

Fighting broke out following the marriage of Newcastle player Danny Guthrie, 25, and his bride Rebecca at Allerton Castle – once owned by 'Grand Old Duke Of York' Prince Frederick – near Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Guests reportedly threw lobster thermidor at each other at the lakeside reception and staff at the home said they had 'behaved like peasants with money'.

Police were called to the scene following a report of a brawl at the wedding venue.

The bride, 23, was said to have been taken to hospital for checks the following morning following claims that she was punched in the face.

Staff dialled 999 on witnessing the fight. Police arrived at the scene and defused the situation before the guests were locked out of the house, but were called again at 4.50am.

The couple's three-year-old daughter Sienna had been taken back to a hotel by a childminder earlier in the night.

But a source close to the wedding venue said: 'They were obnoxious and disgusting. One
could say it would be expected of a rough pub on a council estate, but
then that's probably unfair to council estates. It was more Big Fat
Gypsy Wedding than our usual clientele.'

'Mr and Mrs Cook, who live on site,
were called by marquee staff at 2am to say there was trouble and the
police had been called, and not to expect anyone staying for the night.

'The Castle has three en-suite rooms and a bridal suite for immediate
family but other guests stay at hotels nearby.

'Mr Cook gave it until 3.30am
then locked the doors. At 4am they were awoken by the sound of someone
breaking in. On investigation Mr Cook discovered the door had been smashed in.

'The police were again called, by the
Cooks, Mrs Cook was terrified. We allowed them to stay the night, and they left in
the morning. There was, thankfully, no further incident.'

Yesterday, North Yorkshire Police said
that in all they had been called three times due to incidents connected
with the wedding – twice on the morning of June 2nd and on June 3rd
following an incident on a coach taking guests home.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: 'Police were called at 2.25am on the morning of 2 June to reports of a
fight among a group of guests at Allerton Castle. On arrival, the guests were dispersing and leaving the
venue and no complaints were received from any victims. No arrests were
made.

'Police received a further call at
4.50am when a group of people began banging on doors and causing a
disturbance. On arrival, police found a number of guests had been locked
out and were trying to get back in. No crimes were reported and no
arrests were made.

'Police received another call on 3
June from a woman who reported being caught up in a disturbance on a bus
which was about to leave the same venue in the early hours of 2 June.'

Last night at the gates of the
800,000 detached home she shares with Danny Guthrie in Ponteland,
Tyneside, Mr Guthrie's wife Rebecca denied the incident took place.

'No, no, no. I don't want to know, this
is way beyond me, I don't want this, this didn't happen. You'll have to
call Danny's agent,' she said.

Mr Guthrie's mother Jackie also denied any brawl: 'I don't know what you're talking about.
There was no punch up. There was no fight. What do you mean someone
mouthed off' she said.

'It was a clean cut wedding and nothing happened.'

However, a female voice in the background reportedly said repeatedly: 'Shut the
door and don't say anything.'

The catering company, which provided the lobster for the wedding party, said: 'It is a matter of client confidentiality and to discuss anything in connection with the wedding would be in breach of contract.'
