Chelsea have been warned that Paris Saint-Germain are prepared to pay almost 43million for Hulk.

The European champions have struggled
to agree a fee with Porto for the Brazil striker after initially
registering interest around the 30m mark.

Hulk is keen to move to Stamford Bridge, but his price tag has shifted only upwards after a good run of games on international duty this summer.

Chelsea are looking at other options – such as Fiorentina's Stevan Jovetic – in case they cannot agree a deal and claims of PSG's interest may be seen as trying to force Roman Abramovich to up his bid.

Portuguese media claim the ambitious French side have been in touch with Hulk's agent Teodoro Fonseca about developments as they look to sign a big striker.

PSG have so far failed in bids to sign Carlos Tevez, Gonzalo Higuain, Alexandre Pato and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Newspaper A Bola claims Tottenham will be contenders to sign Hulk if Andre Villas-Boas is appointed the new boss at White Hart Lane, though the price tag appears to be prohibitive.

Meanwhile, another Portuguese newspaper, Diario Noticias, says the biggest stumbling block to his move to Chelsea is a dispute about who should pay Fonseca for his five per cent stake in Hulk, and Uruguayan club Atletico Rentistas, who own 10 per cent.

Chelsea have been warned that they face a fight with Real Madrid to sign Porto striker Hulk.

The European champions have been tipped to make the 35million-rated hot shot their next signing, after wrapping up a 32m deal for Lille playmaker Eden Hazard.

Hulk’s agent Teodoro Fonseca is heading to England for talks with at least four English clubs, but he has warned that Jose Mourinho has been watching developments.

The Madrid manager was in Germany to watch Brazil’s 3-1 win against Denmark on Saturday, with the Spanish press reporting that he was taking a closer look at Sao Paulo playmaker Lucas Moura.

However, the 19-year-old had a quiet game and is unlikely to leave Brazil for another two years – and Fonseca claimed Mourinho was really focused on Hulk.

‘Jose Mourinho was not there for a stroll,’ said Fonseca. ‘Mourinho was in Hamburg to see several players and, of course, he also went to see Hulk. It was he who stood out.’

Tottenham, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs have also shown interest in Hulk, but Fonseca has hinted that Chelsea are the 25-year-old’s preferred destination in England.

Porto striker Hulk says he wants to move to the Premier League and that Chelsea is his preference.

The Brazilian striker’s agent Teodoro Fonseca said: 'For sure Hulk will only leave Porto for a big club and a big league and I can say that we like the Premier League a lot.

'At the moment, Chelsea is a club which is more interesting than ever, because they’ve become European champions and are without doubt one of the biggest in Europe.

'A lot of people would like to play there and of course it would also please us a lot. We know they will need to reinforce themselves as they’ve just lost Drogba and can lose other important players and that perhaps increases the chances of getting closer, but we will only make the step after listening to the Porto board.

'In the current market, Hulk and Neymar are the players most sought after, they’re on the same level. That’s why his financial and professional interests have to be protected.

'We haven’t yet spoken with (Porto president) Pinto da Costa, so we don’t know what Porto can do to try to keep him another season, but we’ve heard the president’s declarations, and it’s a source of pride to know there is so much affection at the club for Hulk. If there’s to be a transfer, nothing will be done without our hearing all interested parties. Hulk is young, he’s withstood the pressure well, and he can wait to leave Porto.

'We haven’t received any concrete offers, despite frequently being sounded out, but that’s normal at this stage. Perhaps there’s been a bit more (sounding out) than in previous years, but that’s because of the excellent season he’s had at Porto.'

Hulk has a buy-out clause of 100 million euros, but Porto may be willing to let him leave for less than this.

Hulk’s agent will conduct an auction for the Porto and Brazil striker next week after admitting he is heading to England for talks with at least four Barclays Premier League clubs.

Teodoro Fonseca confirmed that the 25-year old’s sale was imminent, after Porto president Pinto da Costa reluctantly gave his approval, and that he intended opening transfer talks with his Premier League suitors in the next few days.

Chelsea are leading the way, as reported by Sportsmail, but Tottenham are determined to fight them for the signing, while there is also interest from both Manchester clubs and Liverpool.

Fonseca, who attended Chelsea’s Champions’ League final triumph over Bayern Munich last Saturday, opened up on Hulk’s future after da Costa waived an 85million release clause and agreed to accept around 35million for a player who scored 21 goals in 38 appearances in the season that has just finished.

Describing how Hulk has outgrown the Portuguese League and wants to test himself in English football, Fonseca told Brazilian media outlet Lancenet: ‘Porto is a big club, with a great structure and a name that is respected across Europe. But the problem is the Portuguese League. Hulk has basically won everything there.

‘He dreams of winning the Champions’ League and being an automatic starter for Brazil. And the only way he can achieve this is to go to a more competitive league, one like the Premier League, which we admire greatly.

‘There hasn’t been an official proposal so far. There has been a lot of interest in him, but it has yet to go further than that. All that should change next week. Besides Chelsea, there are four more English clubs interested in him.

‘Porto will not let him go easily. His release clause is 100 million euros, but ultimately it is the player’s wish to take on another challenge that will make the difference.

'Those are the words of Porto’s directors. They have said as much, and will not stand in his way, so though it will not be easy for those English clubs financially, there is room for negotiation. We can sort everything out, I am sure.’
