Olympic gold medallist Peter Charles'
London 2012 horse Murka's Vindicat W has been sold to the daughter of
rock star Bruce Springsteen.

Jessica Springsteen, an American
international showjumper, will now ride the 10-year-old gelding that
secured team gold for Great Britain at Greenwich Park six weeks ago.

Britain went into a jump-off with Holland for the Olympic title and it was Hampshire-based Charles' clear round that clinched top spot.

It meant the British quartet of Charles, Nick Skelton, Ben Maher and Scott Brash gave Britain its first Olympic team showjumping gold medal since 1952.

'Vinnie is one of the best horses I have ever ridden, so the decision to move him on has not come lightly,' Charles said on his Facebook page.

'He produced an outstanding performance to secure team gold for Britain for the first time in 60 years, and I will never forget how that felt and how unbelievably proud he made me and my team feel.

'In order to invest in a new string of young horses in preparation for Rio 2016, we have had to make the decision to allow him to move to another rider.

'He will now be ridden by his new owner Jessica Springsteen for the USA.

'I wish Jessica the best of luck with him and I am sure he will make her proud, too.'

British equestrian is braced for a period of rebuilding and consolidation following a memorable Olympics that saw home-based riders top the medal table.

In addition to the showjumpers, Britain's dressage trio of Charlotte Dujardin, Carl Hester and Laura Bechtolsheimer won team gold, while Dujardin also took the individual title and Bechtolsheimer was third.

And Britain's eventing quintet of William Fox-Pitt, Mary King, Zara Phillips, Tina Cook and Nicola Wilson won silver behind pre-Olympic favourites Germany.

It is expected that Dujardin's Greenwich ride Valegro and Hester's Uthopia will be sold, while Skelton's Olympic back-up horse Carlo 273 has gone to Spanish showjumper Sergio Alvarez Moya.

Usain Bolt claimed the
title as the world's greatest ever sprinter after winning the men's 200m in emphatic style and becoming the only man to have won both the 100m and 200m at two successive Olympics

The Jamaican powered home
in 19.32 seconds, just a fraction outside the Olympic record of 19.30 –
and he raised the roof on the Olympic Stadium by dropping to the track
and celebrating by doing press-ups. Yohan Blake and Warren Weir made it a
Jamaica one-two-three.

The gold rush continued for Great
Britain as dressage star Charlotte Dujardin won her second gold of
London 2012 when she was crowned Olympic individual freestyle champion.

The 27-year-old became only the
fourth British female athlete to win double gold at one Games after Dame
Kelly Holmes, Rebecca Adlington and Laura Trott when she scored 90.089%
on the brilliant Valegro.

And it was double success for Team GB
as Dujardin's team-mate Laura Bechtolsheimer took the bronze after
scoring 84.339 per cent on Mistral Hojris.

Boxer Nicola Adams won gold in
stunning fashion in the women's flyweight final, becoming the first
woman boxing champion in Olympic history.

And Jade Jones capped another
thrilling day by winning gold for Britain in taekwondo. That took
Britain's gold medal tally to 25.

There's plenty yet to come!

So, after Super Saturday, we've now got Terrific Tuesday. Team GB broke through their Beijing total in style on day 11 of the Olympics, winning four gold medals.

Alistair Brownlee got the ball rolling with the thoroughly dominant display in the triathlon against the backdrop of London's glorious greenery in Hyde Park.

The Brownlee family's day was made all the more special by younger brother Jonny coming home in third despite a 15-second penalty.

From there it was over to Greenwich Park where the dressage team of Laura Bechtolsheimer, Carl Hester and Charlotte Dujardin quickly added another – GB's first ever in the equestrian discipline.

The final act of a glorious day was given, though, to Britain's greatest ever Olympian, Sir Chris Hoy, who scooped his sixth Olympic gold to surpass Sir Steve Redgrave.

Also in the velodrome, there were top gongs for up-and-coming rider Laura Trott, while Victoria Pendleton bowed out of track cycling with a silver medal in the individual pursuit.
