Castleford Tigers were unable to arrest their losing run as Hull FC rounded off a superb week with a fourth straight Stobart Super League win.

Peter Gentle's side completed the high-profile signing of England forward Gareth Ellis on Wednesday and had too much for a Tigers side that have yet to win since their victory at Salford in round one.

The lead exchanged hands on several occasions in a frantic first half at the PROBIZ Coliseum, but Hull took control after the interval and eventually ran out comfortable winners.

Danny Tickle scored one of his side's seven tries and finished with 18 points following a flawless kicking display, while Rangi Chase laid on four scores in a losing cause for Castleford.

The Tigers were able to welcome back influential duo Danny Orr and Josh Griffin, who each missed last weekend's defeat to Huddersfield Giants through injury.

However, it was Hull who claimed an early lead with Tongan forward Sam Moa burrowing under the posts from close range after a succession of penalties had given his team excellent field position.

The hosts responded well and were soon in front.

An excellent break from Chase ended with last year's Man of Steel looping a pass out to the left for Nick Youngquest to go over in the corner.

Tickle then put the restart out of play and Castleford duly crossed again through Jonathan Walker. Kirk Dixon, who had missed with his first kick, added the goal to make it 10-6.

Hull hit back with Willie Manu left with a simple finish after Jordan Turner had burst clear down the wing, only to be stopped inches short of the line.

The impressive Chase provided a second assist, this time for Grant Millington, as Castleford reclaimed the lead before seeing another score disallowed for offside.

Hull then surged in front again through Turner, who provided a further demonstration of his pace by gliding past Josh Griffin.

Tickle maintained his 100% record with the boot and added a further two points on the stroke of half-time after Chase had been penalised for squaring up to Rich Whiting in an off-the-ball incident.

There was further controversy prior to Tickle's penalty as Tigers full-back Richard Owen was involved in an angry exchange with the Hull supporters behind the goal.

Tom Briscoe looked to have added a fourth try for the Black and Whites at the start of the second half following more good work from Turner, but the winger was adjudged to have stepped into touch.

A porous Castleford defence was breached again, however, by Tickle, who picked up a knock in the act of scoring, leaving Whiting to miss a tricky touchline conversion.

Another rash of penalties followed as Hull piled on the pressure, culminating in Brett Seymour crossing on the short side. Tickle was able to resume kicking duties and made no mistake.

The Tigers reduced their arrears when Chase found Griffin all alone on the right for a simple score, which Dixon converted.

However, it was Hull who finished much the stronger, with Briscoe representing a particularly potent threat.

The 22-year-old added his name to the scoresheet after a neat offload from Manu, who then grabbed his second try following another fine break from Briscoe.

Brett Ferres went over at the death for Castleford, Chase offering a fourth assist, but it represented little consolation for Ian Millward's men.

Nathan Cleverly will defend his WBO light-heavyweight title against Robin Krasniqi at London's Royal Albert Hall on April 28.

The 25-year-old Welshman retained his belt with a unanimous points decision over American Tommy Karpency in Cardiff last month.

Should Cleverly come through his latest assignment, he will set his sights on the winner of Bernard Hopkins' rematch with Chad Dawson, scheduled for the same night.

London calling: Nathan Cleverly will defend his title at the Royal Albert Hall

'The fight will be the first at the iconic London venue since 1999 when Marco Antonio Barrera faced Paul Lloyd and Cleverly is looking forward to his return to the capital.

‘I’ve got great memories of fighting in London,’ he told Sportsmail. ‘I’ve loved it every time and always had great fights. I’ve never gone the distance here so that’s a good omen. Hopefully I can keep that trend going, and I think I can.

‘The Royal Albert Hall has a lot of history and it will give me that coliseum effect and I’ll feel like a gladiator going into battle. It has a great history with the fighters there, Lennox Lewis, Frank Bruno, Prince Naseem Hamed and Joe Calzaghe. Even Pavarotti has sung there! It’s a good list to add my name to.’

Rangi Chase says he can give more to Castleford, who want to ease reliance on him

England international Rangi Chase insists he can improve on his Man-of-Steel show in 2012, but new Castleford coach Ian Millward admits he needs to make the Tigers less reliant on their star playmaker.

The 25-year-old stand-off enjoyed a stellar year in 2011, beating Sam Tomkins and James Roby to the game's top individual award in a poll of Super League players and helping England reach the Four Nations final after switching his allegiance from New Zealand.

But Castleford just fell short in both domestic competitions, losing out in extra time in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup and narrowly failing to hang onto a Super League play-off place after being in the top eight virtually all season.

Millward, who has succeeded fellow Australian Terry Matterson at the Probiz Coliseum, acknowledges that Chase will again have a key role but is striving to ensure his team are no one-man band.

'We're trying to change our style a bit,' Millward said at the club's pre-season media day.

'It's very obvious if you look at the stats from last year, if Rangi doesn't perform or play, the club were less effective.

'We understand there's quality there, we've just got to work out what's best for the team.'

Chase, who signed a new four-year contract last September, admits he has a hard act to follow after producing the best form of his career in 2011.

'It was a good year for me, with England and Man of Steel, which was the highlight of my career,' he said.

'It all came at once but hopefully I can back something up like that this year.

'It will be very hard but I like a challenge. I'm not bothered about the awards, as long as I personally go well and the team goes well.

'If I'm playing well and doing my job, it will help us reach the potential we have. That's a big goal for me this year, to do my best to help us get to the finals.

'Last year was the best I've played so far but I know I've got more to give and more to improve on. I know I can be a better player, a more rounded player.'

Chase says he is prepared to adapt his game under Millward, who guided St Helens to five major trophies in his time at Knowsley Road, and believes that, in half-back partner Danny Orr and the club's trio of hookers Ryan Hudson, Adam Milner and Daryl Clark, the Tigers have the players to share the playmaking workload.

'The ingredients are there for us to be successful,' he added.

'There are a lot of new structures, which is what we need.

'Every
player has a role in the team. It's not just playing off me, it's
playing off other boys like our nines and Danny and making sure everyone
contributes to what we're doing.

'They won't be relying too much on me at all this year.'

Meanwhile, Millward is resigned to being without four front-row forwards for the start of the season.

New signing Grant Millington, Craig
Huby, Paul Jackson and Jonathan Walker are all still recovering from
injury, leaving Nathan Massey, Jake Emmitt and newcomer Steve Nash as
the club's only specialist props for the opening game at Salford on
February 4.

'I'm very confident over the next month they will all return in dribs and drabs,' said Millward, who is loathe to make predictions for 2012.

He added: 'I don't know the players well enough yet to say what we can do but I like their attitude and keenness for a change.

'I respect what Terry did last year but everyone has different views – that's what makes coaches different.

'We've just talked about certain key performance indicators we are looking to be consistent in.

'Last year we conceded 29.7 points a game so we need to get better defensively and we need to be less reliant on certain individuals. We need to work more as a team.'
