Phillipe Mexes scored AC Milan's second goal against Anderlecht as they beat the Belgian side 3-1 in Champions League Group C.

In sensational style, the French defender chested a lofty set-piece on the edge of the area before launching himself in pursuit of the ball and connecting with a sweet overhead kick.

Milan's win at Anderlecht meant

After Mexes scored the Ibrahimovic Mark II goal, Tom De Sutter clawed one back for the Belgians before Alexandre Pato fired home the third.

Chelsea defender David Luiz has been selected to represent Brazil at the forthcoming Olympic Games.

Luiz, 25, is one of the three players who can appear for their country to battle for the gold medal, despite being over the age of 23.

The Brazil team meet on July 9 for training before they take on Great Britain in a pre-tournament friendly in Middlesbrough on July 20.

Meanwhile, AC Milan’s Brazilian star Alexandre Pato believes Great Britain will be a team to be feared in the Olympic football tournament, especially if they include his old team-mate David Beckham.

Pato, 22, is preparing to feature in his second Olympic Games, aiming to deliver a gold medal having won bronze with Brazil in Beijing four years ago.

Brazil face Great Britain in a pre-Olympics friendly at the Riverside Stadium on July 20 – and Pato hopes that is the only time they cross paths in the coming weeks.

'I hope I will only meet them in the friendly because in the Olympics they will be a very difficult side to beat, especially at home,' Pato said.

'If that was the emotion in winning the bronze I don’t know what it would be like to win gold.'

Brazil coach Mano Menezes failed to

virtually ending the player's chances of making it to the Olympics
again.

Neymar, Alexandre Pato and Paulo
Henrique Ganso were among the 23 players selected for the friendlies
against Denmark on May 26, the United States on May 30, Mexico on June 3
and Argentina on June 9.

The players selected are expected to form the core of a squad which will try to lead Brazil to its first Olympic gold medal in football, and Menezes hinted that those not on the list likely won't be in London.

'It's correct to affirm that these 23 names are the base of the Olympic team,' Menezes said. 'It's unlikely we will make any changes. After making evaluations in the last few months, we think these are the names (for London).'

Only six players on the list are older than 23 – Chelsea defender David Luiz, AC Milan defender Thiago Silva, Barcelona defender Daniel Alves, Real Madrid defender Marcelo, FC Porto striker Hulk and Botafogo goalkeeper Jefferson.

The Olympic tournament is played with under-23 squads but each team may use three over-age players.

Two-time world player of the year Ronaldinho had been regularly selected by Menezes despite playing poorly with Brazilian club Flamengo, but Menezes said it is time to try something different.

'If things are not going well, you make a change,' Menezes said. 'But you have to respect Ronaldinho, he is a world champion. He is they type of player who can rebound and surprise everyone.'

The 32-year-old Ronaldinho had been on the list of 52 players pre-selected for the London Games. He played in the 2008 Beijing Olympics at which Brazil lost in the semifinals to an Argentina team containing Lionel Messi and finished with the bronze.

Inter Milan goalkeeper Julio Cesar and midfielder Ramires, who helped Chelsea reach the Champions League final, were on that list but were also left out by Menezes on Friday. Real Madrid playmaker Kaka didn't even make the 52-player list.

Alexandre Pato will receive another chance in the team after missing several Brazil matches because of injuries while playing with AC Milan.

The 20-year-old Neymar will be the main player carrying Brazil's hopes in London, but other promising names included are playmaker Lucas and forward Oscar, who scored Brazil's three goals in the 3-2 victory over Portugal in the Under-20 World Cup final last year.

The Olympic tournament is the only significant football competition Brazil is yet to win. The five-time World Cup champions won Olympic silver in 1984 and 1988, and the bronze in 1996 and 2008. — Squad: Goalkeepers: Jefferson (Botafogo), Neto (Fiorentina), Rafael (Santos).

Peter Storrie wants Portsmouth return

Former Pompey chief executive Storrie open to return to crisis club

Open to return: Peter Storrie

Open to return: Peter Storrie

Portsmouth's former chief executive Peter Storrie has expressed his desire to return to the club.

Having assumed the role in 2002, when Pompey were struggling in the second tier, Storrie played a part in guiding the club to the Premier League the following year.

In 2008 came the pinnacle of Portsmouth's success as they won the FA Cup for the first time since 1939. Within two years, however, they became the first Premier League club to enter administration.

Undeterred by the travails of his
previous involvement at Fratton Park, Storrie is keen to go back to the
club who are sitting second-bottom of the npower Championship and once
more in administration.

'My wife would say never in 100 years but my heart tells me yes,' the 59-year-old told BBC Sport.

'The criticism I've received hasn't been
from all the supporters. I've had a lot of support from people who
understand what happened.

'At the end of the day, you can only do what the owners ask you to do.

'I brought the club a lot of success.'

That success started in 2003 when Portsmouth finished top of what is now the Championship under the management of Harry Redknapp. The former West Ham boss led them to a 13th in the Premier League but left in November of the following season for south-coast rivals Southampton.

His return in December 2005 came just before the arrival of Alexandre Gaydamak, whose financial backing allowed Redknapp to strengthen the squad and guide Pompey to safety.

Gaydamak continued to plough funds into the playing staff, with the likes of Sulley Muntari, Niko Krancjar, John Utaka, Jermain Defoe and David Nugent commanding fees totalling over 30million.

The investment facilitated cup success with the 1-0 win over Cardiff at Wembley in 2008 and also enabled the club to embark on its maiden voyage into European football in the 2008-09 UEFA Cup.

But when the well ran dry and Gaydamak's support was withdrawn, the club's future was thrown into doubt as ownership changed hands three times in one tumultuous season, which ended in relegation.

Despite acting as a key protagonist in bringing in two of Portsmouth's failed owners, Al Fahim and Ali Al Faraj, Storrie distances himself from any responsibility.

'I did all the checks you can do – more checks than the league did – and it all came out that they were multimillionaires and the club would be safe,' he said.

'How do you know when you can't get to the bottom of it'

While Al Fahim's credibility as the chief executive of a high-profile business in Abu Dhabi seemed assured, the same could not be said for Al Faraj.

'I still don't know if he exists,' Storrie added. 'I'm told by his representatives that he exists and I dealt with them personally, as did the Premier League.'

Last year Storrie was acquitted on charges of tax fraud in relation to the transfers of Amdy Faye and Eyal Berkovic to Portsmouth, but, despite all the upheaval, Storrie has fond memories of his time there.

'I had eight of the most enjoyable years of my life at Portsmouth. It's a fantastic club,' he added.

'There is a potential development scheme there and the club has already proven it can hold its own in the Premier League. There's no reason it can't do that again.

'I just hope there is somebody out there to take the club forward.'

Together again Milan in summer plot to reunite pals Tevez and Mascherano

AC Milan are plotting to reunite Carlos Tevez with Javier Mascherano at the San Siro this summer.

Adriano Galliano, chief executive of the Serie A champions, is believed to have used his trip to London this week to find out if a summer move for Tevez was still on the cards.

While Milan looked blunt and vulnerable in their 3-0 Champions League defeat by Arsenal, Tevez made his second appearance in a Manchester City shirt since returning to the club for the reserves against Bolton.

Galliani pushed hard to sign Tevez in January until Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi pulled the plug on Alexandre Pato’s departure to Paris Saint-Germain, which would have funded the deal with City.

With PSG boss Carlo Ancelotti confirming he will make another move for Pato in the summer, Berlusconi is dreaming of signing Robin van Persie from Arsenal.

However, as competition is fierce for the Holland striker, 28-year-old Tevez is seen as a more realistic target.

Galliani is keen to build a close relationship with the Argentine’s adviser, Kia Joorabchian, and has also shown an interest in Mascherano.

Although Milan progressed to the Champions League quarter-final thanks to a 4-0 first leg win against Arsenal, the return match caused alarm within the San Siro hierarchy.
