Barcelona beat Al-Sadd to reach Club World Cup final

Messi v Neymar! Barcelona set up Santos showdown as Catalans cruise to Club World Cup final

Lionel Messi and Barcelona are through to the final of the Club World Cup after 4-0 win over Al-Sadd in the last four.

The European champions will meet Brazilian outfit Santos, with starlet Neymar in their ranks, in Sunday”s final.

Adriano helped himself to a double and Seydo Keita and Maxwell were on target for Barca but a broken leg for David Villa took some of the gloss of the result.

The Catalans were in complete control from the first whistle to the last, although they were given a helping hand by Al-Sadd goalkeeper Mohamed Saqr.

Barcelona dominated possession early on, but their moves kept breaking down on the edge of the area as Al-Sadd defended deep and in numbers.

Villa almost capitalised on a defensive mistake when a poor clearance let him in, but his shot was weak and saved by Saqr.

And the goal when it came in the 25thminute was a gift. Pedro”s cross from the left was too long and touchedback to Saqr by Nadir Belhadj at the far post.

Perhaps expecting the former Portsmouth man to just clear the danger, which would have been the sensible option, Saqr hesitated and when he did finally react could onlystab his clearance into the legs of the onrushing Adriano and the ball rebounded into the net.

Villa followed in to score after Andres Iniesta”s fierce shot had been pushed away by Saqr, but the effort was correctly ruled out for offside.

The Spain forward then had to go off after picking up an injury in a tackle – later diagnosed as a fractured left tibia – with Alexis Sanchez coming on.

The Qataris could barely get a touch and Adriano grabbed his second two minutes before the break with Saqr again at fault.

Thiago Alcantara played him in down the right of the area and Adriano cut inside and fired home a shot whichcrept under the keeper”s dive.

Barca”s concentration wandered at theend of the half and former Marseille striker Mamadou Niang almost caught them out twice, but was unable to test Victor Valdes.

Messi was finding plenty of space and danced through tackles before shooting just wide of the far post at the start of the second half.

Iniesta then had an attempt blocked after fashioning a shooting chance, while Saqr went some way to making up for his first-half mistake with a flying save to keep out Messi”s free-kick.

But he was beaten again in the 64th minute when the Argentinian slipped in Keita to make it 3-0.

Maxwell added a fourth in the 81st minute when he fired home from a tight angle, with the unorthodox Saqr trying, and failing, to save the shot with his feet.

PSG have also been linked with a move for Tevez, and although Galliani claims he is aware of interest from the Ligue 1 big spenders, he still has hopes of bringing the player to the San Siro.

“Yes it”s true, PSG are also in the running although I haven”t heard from (their sporting director) Leonardo,” Galliani was quoted as telling Sky Italia.

“We know City”s desire is to the sell the player, our proposal is to loan him and hope City say yes.

“I”m neither optimistic nor pessimistic. I can certainly say the player would prefer to be at Milan but you have to convince City to send him out on loan and that”s not easy.”

Tevez is currently in his native Argentina having flown home without City”s permission a month ago. His representatives have been speaking to officials at Milan about a possible move over the last fortnight.

Those productive talks resulted in Galliani announcing Milan”s intentions on Monday but there has been no suggestion from City a deal is imminent.

Galliani claims AC Milan have agreement to take Tevez on loan, but City deny contact

AC Milan have made an offer to Manchester City to sign Carlos Tevez on loan in January, the Italian club”s vice-president Adriano Galliani announced.

Galliani claims an agreement is in place with the Argentina forward, but no deal has yet been reached between the Serie A champions and City.

Reports in Italy suggest the Rossoneri have offered to take Tevez on a free loan for six months with an option to sign the player permanently next summer for 23million euros.

“Between yesterday and today I have taken steps to reinforce a team that is already a formidable one,” Galliani told the Milan Channel.

“We have the agreement with Tevez and we recently sent an email to City with our offer.

“Our offer is a free loan deal with an option to sign the player permanently on certain conditions.

“We hope City says yes. There were other European clubs interested, but we are in pole position.

“Tevez wants to come to us. Half of the agreement has been reached. Now we await City”s response.”

Representatives for the former Manchester United forward have held positive talks with the Italian giants. And, although it is understood no contact has yet been made between the clubs, City manager Roberto Mancini said it was “important” Tevez was sold.

The 27-year-old Tevez looks set to leave the Blues in the new year after his latest fallout with the club.

Tevez has been absent from City for the past month having returned to Argentina without permission after deciding not to appeal against a club fine for misconduct.

City found Tevez guilty of five breaches of contract over his conduct on the bench during the Champions League loss at Bayern Munich in September and his future at the club hasbeen uncertain since.

Milan are looking to bolster their attack with Italy striker Antonio Cassano ruled out indefinitely after undergoing a heart procedure.

“Tevez is not playing, and he is a great player and, should he do well with us, we could make the deal permanent,” Galliani said.

“He is a player of absolute value. Our idea is to take him with us to Dubai (Milan”s winter training camp) as we did a few years ago with David Beckham and Antonio Cassano.

“I spoke to Cassano and he was happy regarding Tevez”s deal. He is well and he is a big supporter of Carlitos” arrival.

“Tevez had a lot of incentives at City for the Premier League and for the Champions League but I convincedTevez to renounce a mountain of money.

“(AC Milan owner Silvio) Berlusconi has given me the okay for the deal, showing yet again how he loves the Rossoneri colours.”
