Gareth Bale has been told he would be a great fit for Barcelona by the Catalan giants’ defender Gerard Pique.

Pique, who has made 29 appearances for Barca this season, said the La Liga leaders’ dressing room is always awash with talk of English football, and Bale is a hot topic.

Bale has scored ten goals in his last eight games for Tottenham, and will face fellow Player of the Year contender Luis Suarez when Spurs travel to Liverpool in the Premier League today.

And his stellar performances have caught the eye of Barcelona, where Pique is a huge admirer.

‘He is an unbelievable player, a great player – he has with all the conditions to play in the team that he wants to,’ Pique told the BBC.

‘He's doing a great job at Tottenham, and we will see. We want to have all the best players in our team.

‘It’s true that maybe, because he’s really quick and with the power he’s got, he fits a bit better at Real Madrid, but he can play here too definitely.

‘The best players can fit in any team, no matter the style.’

Pique, who re-joined boyhood club Barcelona from Manchester United in 2008, said the Premier League is also a reason to poke fun at one of his team-mates.

‘Fabregas loves to talk about Arsenal – but we say they have no chance to win anything this year!’ he said.

Barcelona are currently 14 points clear of second-placed Atletico Madrid in the Spanish La Liga, but face a difficult task on Tuesday at the Nou Camp to overcome a two-goal deficit against AC Milan in the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain are set to pounce on the uncertainty surrounding Samir Nasri’s future with a big-money summer swoop.

Manchester City sources have indicated to Sportsmail that the France international is keen to explore the option of leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer after a breakdown in his relationship with Roberto Mancini.

Nasri is said to have been shocked and angered by his manager’s decision to criticise him publicly last week.

And news of Nasri’s anger has alerted PSG sporting director Leonardo, who is a known admirer of the Frenchman.

The Brazilian failed in an attempt to snatch Nasri from under City’s noses when he left Arsenal in 2011.

And the mega-rich club want to revive their interest in Nasri when the summer transfer window re-opens, with the player said to be ‘more than open’ to the move.

PSG’s riches mean they will have no
problems matching Nasri’s current 170,000-per-week wages, though City
will want to recoup as much of the 24million paid for the attacking
midfielder as possible.

Whether or not Mancini remains at the City helm beyond the end of the season, will be a factor when Nasri decides his future.

But with champions City keen to lower
their wage bill significantly this summer, selling Nasri is
unquestionably an attractive option for them.

Luis Suarez could be a potential candidate to replace Mario Balotelli with Roberto Mancini admitting he is a big admirer of the Liverpool hotshot.

City were cut down to three senior strikers after Balotelli completed a 19.5million move to AC Milan this week and Mancini clearly believes Suarez would be a valuable addition to his squad.

Mancini said: 'For me, Suarez is a top player, I like him as he is strong, he works.'

According to The Sun, City's Italian manager is preparing a 40million summer bid for the Uruguayan hitman.

It will not be easy to prise the 26-year-old striker away from Anfield should Mancini make a bid for Suarez.

In an exclusive interview with Sportsmail earlier this week, Suarez vowed to stay at Liverpool even if they don't qualify for the Champions League this season.

He said: 'I will wait until the end of the season and see how we are doing,' he says. 'We won't know until then how we are doing and what our position is so I am prepared to wait until that time.

'But I want to say now that, if you want to know what will happen to me if we don't qualify for the Champions League, then I will say this: I have a contract with Liverpool and I am very happy here. I will stay.'

Mancini and his City squad face Liverpool tomorrow afternoon at the Etihad, and bid to keep pace with league leaders United.

But Suarez's strike partner, ex-City forward Daniel Sturridge, believes the pair are developing a 'telepathic' understanding which could trouble the champions.

Sturridge, who left the Etihad for Chelsea in 2009, told the Daily Telegraph: 'It's early days but the signs are that we're playing well together.

'As you play with someone more regularly, you do things telepathically, you know where they're going to be and you start playing off the cuff.'

QPR boss Harry Redknapp has made a 5million bid for West Brom defender Jonas Olsson, according to reports.

Redknapp priority in this transfer window is to strengthen his defence to try and help his side in their battle against relegation and is keen on Olsson, whose outstanding form this season has also seen him watched by Arsenal.

The 29-year-old has a 4m buy-out clause in his contract in the summer and QPR believe they can get him this month.

Tottenham are considering making a 15million offer for Brazil striker and long-term target Leandro Damiao.

The 23-year-old, who has 14 caps for his country, was on Spurs’ radar throughout Harry Redknapp’s reign and Andre Villas-Boas is also an admirer.

With Emmanuel Adebayor expected to perform a u-turn and head to the Africa Cup of Nations Spurs are ready to make a fresh bid for the Internacional man, according to the Sunday Telegraph.

If Adebayor does, as expected, play for Togo this month then that would leave Jermain Defoe as Villas-Boas’ only available striker.

Damiao finished as top scorer in last summer’s Olympics with six goals and Spurs are believed to have had offers rejected in the past.

The club have already tied up a pre-contract agreement with German international midfielder Lewis Holtby, who will officially join the club in the summer.

QPR want to back manager Harry Redknapp with a 20million spree to fight relegation.

The Premier League's basement club have earmarked Rennes midfielder Yann M'Vila, 22, Marseille striker Loic Remy, 25, and West Ham midfield star Mo Diame, 25, in an ambitious attempt to stop their slide into the Championship.

A bid of 9m is said to have been placed for Remy, a 7.5m offer is primed for M'Vila while Diame has a 3.5m release clause.

The club would face a hard sell to convince the players to come after yesterday's 3-0 defeat to Liverpool left them eight points off 17th-placed Aston Villa, but they know Redknapp is a persuasive boss capable of rescuing them.

Newcastle, who will lose Demba Ba to Chelsea, would seem favourites for Remy but a deal for M'Vila, 22, would represent a coup for QPR.

He has been tracked by Arsenal and Tottenham but is suspended from playing for France until June 2014.

Redknapp has also considered Paris St-Germain's Diego Lugano, 32, and Aston Villa defender Richard Dunne, 33, who is returning to fitness and mulling over an offer from New York Red Bulls.

Luca di Montezemolo: I"d want Sebastian Vettel not Lewis Hamilton to replace Fernando Alonso at Ferrari

Forget Hamilton, I'd want Vettel to replace Alonso at Ferrari, claims Di Montezemolo

18:40 GMT, 20 December 2012

Lewis Hamilton is lagging behind Sebastian Vettel on Ferrari's wishlist of a potential replacements for current team leader Fernando Alonso.

Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo revealed he is a greater admirer of Vettel's talents than those of Hamilton when asked who he would like to take over when Alonso decides to call it a day.

'If, tomorrow, Fernando would withdraw for any reason – let's say he moves to Hawaii with his girlfriend – then I would want Vettel,' said the Ferrari president to German magazine Auto Motor und Sport.

'He is young, he has his feet on the floor, and he has an indomitable will to win. Michael Schumacher made me aware of him years ago because he knew him from his karting years. I must say, Michael was right.'

Seemingly ruling our Hamilton's chances of driving for Ferrari, di Montezemolo claimed his decision to leave McLaren for Mercedes counts against him.

Asked why he preferred Vettel to Hamilton, di Montezemolo replied: 'Because he (Vettel) is younger, and because Ferrari would be Hamilton's third team. And if you've reached your third team, your career is already in its second half.'

Even hints by Vettel that Ferrari had used 'dirty tricks' to try and derail his pursuit of a third successive world title do not seem to have dented his chances of a move to Maranello.

Hat-trick: Vettel claimed his third world title this season

'In the heat of battle you can always say something emotional,' said Di Montezemolo.

Given the increasingly fierce rivalry between Vettel and Alonso there seems little prospect of the pair sharing a garage at Ferrari until the Spaniard decides to call it a day.

And Di Montezemolo insisted he would be only too delighted if Alonso opts to see out the remaining three years of his contract with Ferrari.

He added: 'I'm incredibly happy with him. He is more than just a driver.'

With Hamilton having already admitted he is unlikely to be in the title frame next season as he strives to turn Mercedes into frontrunners, the drivers' championship has all the hallmarks of being another titanic battle between Vettel and Alonso.

However, Jenson Button will hopeful of forcing his way into the title picture if McLaren can find the required reliability to go with the speed advantage they enjoyed last season.

McLaren's 2013 challenger, the Mercedes-powered MP4-28, will break cover on January 31 at a launch ceremony in the UK.

Andre Villas-Boas has said it is ‘completely impossible’ that Gareth Bale will leave Tottenham in the January transfer window.

The Spurs midfielder has long been linked to a lucrative move to the Bernabeu and Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho is known to be long-term admirer of his ability.

But Villas-Boas has ruled out a big-money move next month.

‘It is completely impossible he will leave in January.

‘The transfer window always gives you the opportunity to strengthen your squad. Teams will lose players to African Cup of Nations, but there is a chance to strengthen a little bit. Ideally you’d prefer to avoid it. It’s for us, we should plan our season, stick to players we see in summer, define our season in our season plan and go on from there.

‘I think ideally for managers and
clubs it would be a better situation if the window didn’t open or opened
for less than one month. For players it is important to have that
possibility to go and play more.’

Villas-Boas revealed Bale may have recovered from a hamstring injury in time to face Stoke on the weekend.

‘Bale has made good progression and
he will be in contention for the game against Stoke. Obviously he is an
important player for us who can make a difference like in the game
against Liverpool. Players like his can make the difference for you.’

The Tottenham manager ruled out spending big next month, believing Spurs have enough talent in the squad with players returning from injury lay-offs.

‘We have a big squad and our boost will come from the return of the injured players,’ he said. ‘I think at the moment we are okay, we have a good squad with excellent players.

‘At the moment I wouldn’t say there will be any additions but it doesn’t mean a good opportunity in the transfer market can’t arise as long as it strengthens us, although we are looking strong in every position.

He also compared Tottenham’s Europa League draw against Lyon to a Champions League tie.

‘Lyon is a tremendous opportunity for us,’ he added. ‘It is a tremendous opportunity to see a wonderful Europa League fixture being played, they are like Champions League fixtures. The fact that we play Lyon, a team used to winning trophies, is important for us.’

Wenger hints at January transfer swoop for Serie A top goalscorer El Shaarawy after refusing to rule out move for Milan star

Arsene Wenger could be ready to bolster Arsenal’s front line in the January transfer window with an audacious bid for highly-rated AC Milan striker Stephan El Shaarawy.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the 20-year-old for some time and Wenger has expressed his admiration of the Italian striker.

Wenger believes the Italy international would effortlessly slot into his side and believes his technical ability and speed make him an ideal signing.

The Frenchman told Eurosport: ‘El Shaarawy is a very mobile, very technical young player. His philosophy fits perfectly with mine.’

But Wenger will have a fight on his hands if he wants to land Serie A’s top goalscorer.

Milan are reluctant to part with El Shaarawy, who has scored 14 goals so far in the league, and are keen to get value for money should the 25million-rated striker push for a move in January.

Another stumbling block for Wenger is that the youngster would be loath to leave the Rossoneri, as a life-long fan of the club.

But despite the remote prospect of landing El Shaarawy in January, Wenger refused to rule out a move.

This weekend he said: ‘You never know. I just say I love the way he plays.’

Despite El Shaarawy’s exceptional season, his side sit in seventh place in Serie A after a disappointing start to their campaign.

Wenger is ready for a busy January transfer window, and has already been linked with a move for Barcelona right back Daniel Alves to improve his side's defensive record.

El Shaarawy isn't the only striker he has his eye on. Arsenal's all-time top goalscorer Thierry Henry could make a return to the Emirates on loan in Januray, and Newcastle hitman Demba Ba could yet be persuaded to swap Tyneside for north London.

Meanwhile, Arsenal hammered Premier League strugglers Reading 5-2 at the Madejski Stadium last night, as they bounced back from last week's crippling defeat at the hands of Bradford in the Capital One Cup.
