Mauricio Pochettino's first game in charge of Southampton ended in a goalless draw with Everton at St Mary's.

Both sides missed a number of opportunities, with Nikica Jelavic's scuff from close range the most glaring, as Everton failed to close the gap to fourth-placed Tottenham.
