Manchester City are confident their title chances will be boosted by the return of Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany this weekend but there continue to be lingering doubts about the recovery of Joleon Lescott.

All three players missed the 1-1 draw at Stoke City on Saturday and watched from the sidelines as City dropped more vital points away from home.

But it is understood that centre forward Aguero is certain to recover from the sore foot that kept him out and will face Sunderland at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

Captain Vincent Kompany has stepped up training and has a very good chance of playing for the first time since injuring his groin in Sporting Lisbon two-and-half weeks ago.

Lescott, though, has received a course of injections to aid his injured groin and has been told to rest.
