New Monaco boss Ranieri plotting swoop for Tottenham defender Bassong

Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri wants to make Sebastien Bassong one of his first signings.

The Spurs defender, 25, is also wanted by Russian side Rubin Kazan.

Tottenham hope to sign Ajax centre half Jan Vertonghen but are unlikely to pursue a deal for West Brom midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu, who is contracted until 2015 but said: ‘We have already started talking to teams like Newcastle and Tottenham.’
