One Ryder Cup fan got a little bit more than he bargained for as he watched the opening rounds of the competition – a knock on the head from a stray Tiger Woods tee shot.

Woods, who was paired with Steve Stricker during the opening foursomes against Ian Poulter and Justin Rose at the Medinah Country Club endured some difficult holes early on.

But none more so than the seventh,
where his wayward tee shot went off course and into a crowd where it hit
a watching fan flush on the head.

Woods was quick to check the fan was ok and signed his glove for the fan as a way of apologising.

After 11 holes Woods and Stricker trailed Poulter and Woods by two shots.
