Mancini: Forget FA Cup defeat, we are even closer to claiming title glory
Manchester City's second-half performance against rivals Manchester United on Sunday has convinced Roberto Mancini that his side will be able to win the Premier League this season.
The Italian's side played with ten men for most of the game after captain Vincent Kompany was shown a controversial red card, and nearly managed to pull level from 3-0 down, eventually losing 3-2.
Chance: Roberto Mancini thinks Manchester City can win the title
'Of course I am disappointed that we have lost the game and gone out of the FA Cup but I was pleased that we played such a good game and I am proud of my players,' said Mancini.
'The players have shown character and taken a step forward. I think more than ever that we can go on and win the league.
'If we show the same attitude and strength in other games that we showed against United with only ten men then yes we can win the league. I said we had to improve and I think we are doing so.
Strike: Aleksandar Kolarov's free kick hauled City back into the game
'To play 80 minutes against one of the best teams in Europe with ten men and come so close to saving the game was fantastic.'
The boss is planning on appealing against Kompany's red card, which if not overturned, would result in the skipper missing four games, including a crucial league fixture against Spurs and both Carling Cup semi-finals against Liverpool.
