Sunderland pair Bendtner and Cattermole arrested over allegations of trashing cars in Newcastle

Sunderland pair Nicklas Bendtner and Lee Cattermole have been arrested after going on a car-wrecking spree.

Police are investigating claims that they damaged a string of cars on the evening of December 6.

The incident took place on Stowell Street, which is just streets away from St James’ Park – the home of arch rivals Newcastle.

Both players were arrested on Thursday and questioned on suspicion of causing criminal damage before they were later bailed.

A spokesman from Northumbria Police said: “Police can confirm that on Thursday, December 15, two men aged 23 were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage.

“If follows an investigation in to damage caused to cars on Stowell Street in Newcastle city centre, which happened at about 10pm on Tuesday, December 6.”

At least three cars are believed to have been damaged in the incident, which took place just days after Sunderland lost to Wolves at Molineux.

Police are understood to be analysing CCTV as they bid to assess the full extent of the damage.
