Bubble burst: Nicky Barmby has been suspended by Hull
Hull City manager Nick Barmby has been suspended by the Championship club pending an internal investigation by owners, Assem and Ehab Allam.
Barmby, who has been in charge since Nigel Pearson’s return to Leicester in November, questioned the Allam family’s ambitions in a recent local newspaper article after narrowly missing out on the play-offs.
The former England international was suspended on the day former chairman and chief executive Adam Pearson, one of his chief allies in the Yorkshire club’s boardroom, walked out.
Fans’ favourite Barmby is expected to remain away for a fortnight as officials investigate his comments in an interview on April 12 in which he was critical of the Allam family, owners of a Hull-based generator firm and 214th on the Sunday Times rich list.
But his future looks ominous and former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy and ex-Derby manager Billy Davies are the first to be linked with the job.
