No new striker at Newcastle Think again… as Pardew offers trial to 12,000 non-league ace!
In demand: Jason Prior
Newcastle are considering a dramatic U-turn on their plan to snub signing a striker – after offering a trial to a non-league hitman.
Bognor Regis star Jason Prior has been handed the chance to earn a deal at the Barclays Premier League side.
Boss Alan Pardew, who has claimed they will not bring in a new forward despite Demba Ba”s imminent departure to the African Cup of Nations, has been impressed by Prior”s incredible goalscoring streak.
The 23-year-old has scored close to 100 goals in just two-and-a-half seasons at the Ryman South club.
Hewas expected to join Blue Square South side Eastleigh in January but that deal has now been put on hold with interest from the top-flight giants.
Prior is now set to travel to the north-east next week in a bid to show he can mix it with the big boys.
Toon owner Mike Ashley, who is reluctantto splash the cash, may well be tempted with the idea of spending just 12,000 on unknown Prior to cover the loss of Ba.
Big loss: Alan Pardew will soon be without the services of Demba Ba
It is a tiny fraction of the 35million that Ashley banked when he sold star striker Andy Carroll a year ago.
In fact, for that sum they could afford to buy almost 3,000 versions of Prior – now that would be some strikeforce.
