Liverpool’s disastrous start to the Premier League season has gone from bad to worse as defender Martin Kelly revealed that he will be out until 2013.
Brendan Rodgers is still awaiting news on Daniel Agger, who had to be stretchered off after an awkward collision with Antonio Valencia during Liverpool's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United.
Not you too: Martin Kelly (centre) is the latest Liverpool player to be sidelined by injury
Rodgers’ side were forced to finish the game against United with just nine men after – having had Jonjo Shelvey sent off and using all their substitutes – Kelly was unable to continue having picked up an injury.
Kelly confirmed the severity of his
injury, thought to be to a knee ligament, by tweeting: ‘What I can say
is its not the worst injury I’ve had, and for sure ill be fighting for
my place next year when I’m back fitter and stronger!’
The 22-year-old admitted earlier on Monday that he was ‘fearing the worst’ ahead of the scan on the injury.
He said: ‘Hoping for the best but fearing the worst ;( got my scan at 8 then will let you guys know x’
Rodgers expressed his concern for Agger after his star centre-back looked to be in some pain as he was carried off the pitch at Anfield.
He said: ‘Fabio (Borini) had a badly
swollen ankle. Agger’s doesn’t look good, the medics were saying it
might be a medial ligament. We’ll see.’
