Mark Hughes not looking to sell Joey Barton

Hughes dismisses Barton sale talk saying: 'We need more quality players like Joey'

Hughes, who denied he will sell Joey Barton, wants Blackburn defender Chris Samba, Fulham striker Andy Johnson and Manchester City’s Nedum Onouha. He has been linked with Sao Paulo forward Henrique, too.

He said: ‘We’re in the market for good players. I’ve seen the story about Joey, but there is no suggestion we want to sell him. Joey is quality and I am looking to bring in quality, not lose it.’

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew had no complaints about the tough Shaun Derry tackle on Yohan Cabaye. He said: ‘He seems to get the ball, so it was probably yellow.
