United considering swoop for Palace prospect Clyne as race for right-back hots up
Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to sign Crystal Palace starlet Nathaniel Clyne.
The England Under 21 international is out of contract at the end of the season and could be available now for 3million.
Newcastle, Fulham and Everton are also interested in the highly-rated right-back.
Wanted man: Nathaniel Clyne (right) has attracted plenty of attention
Palace chairman Steve Parish admitted this week that the Eagles are resigned to losing Clyne and suggested the player’s agent is playing his part in earning his client a move to the Premier League.
'Nathaniel won’t sign a new contract,' Parish told the London Evening Standard. 'I have offered him a very lucrative one and I can’t force him to accept it.
'His agent has got Nathaniel running his contract down – make your own mind up about what’s happening.'
Filling in: Chris Smalling (left) has had to play at right back for United
United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is in need of cover in defence with Chris Smalling and Phil Jones having had to fill in for the injured Rafael.
If Clyne leaves Selhurst Park in the summer, the Eagles will receive compensation as the player is under 24 and has come through the club’s youth system.
And, according to Goal.com, Palace will likely be tempted by an offer from the Old Trafford club.
