Manchester United are weighting up a summer move for Everton full-back Leighton Baines as well as Valencia defender Jordi Alba.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson sees the England international Baines as a long term replacement for captain Patrice Evra.

And United believe they will be able to snap up the defender for as little as 5million due to Everton's financial situation.

Baines, 27, has been outstanding this season and is putting pressure on Ashley Cole to be England’s first-choice left-back at Euro 2012.

He has just over three years left on his contract at Goodison and is a big favorite with the fans. But Ferguson has been monitoring him for the past two years.

Evra is beginning to show signs of age and the United boss has already confirmed that Brazilian youngster Fabio will continue his footballing education on loan next season.

United have also sent scouts to Spain to watch Alba and have been impressed with what they have seen.

Alba has three caps for Spain and would cost around 15m but neighbours Manchester City are also keen.
