Wayne Rooney sent Manchester United three points clear at the top of the Premier League with the only goal of the game against a resolute Fulham side.

Rooney's goal minutes before half time — his eighth goal in six league games — ensured that Sir Alex Ferguson's side went back above their near rivals Manchester City.

Fulham played well without creating too many chances – and had a penalty shout late on – but Rooney's goal was enough for United to take all three points at Old Trafford.
