Mark Cavendish has questioned Olympic track sprint champion Victoria Pendleton's motives for competing at this summer's Games.

The world road race champion said: 'Unlike Victoria Pendleton, I'm not in it to be the face of my sport. I'm in it to achieve.

'I'm in it to do my nation proud in
the Olympics, no matter what pressure is put on me. I want to pull that
jersey on with a group of five great athletes from this country and win
the first gold medal at the Olympic Games in London.'
