Ellington sprints to target in “crazy” eBay auction

James Ellington, the British sprinter Sportsmailrevealed on Wednesday was auctioning himself to sponsors on eBay, reached his 30,000 target on Wednesday night – if he is not the victim of an internet jape.
Ellington, the third ranked 200m runner in Britain who gets minimal cash from the UK Athletics” Lottery funds, needs the money to enable him to give up his part-time job to concentrate full-time on making Britain”s team at London 2012.
He put himself under the heading “Sporting Goods” in an auction he set for 10 days, offering to wear sponsors” branding and endorse their products throughout the Olympic year.
Within six hours the total stood at 30,200 after 58 people made bids.
If they make good on their offers, Ellington, 26, will quit his three-day-a-week job.
“It”s just gone crazy,” he said. “I just never expected it to take off so quickly.”
