Barry Middleton, the captain of Great Britain’s hockey team, is sweating on his London 2012 place after being left out of the squad for the forthcoming test event.

The 28-year-old is the most capped player in the men’s game and skipper since 2009, but head coach Jason Lee said: ‘When you consider we have 27 players in the squad, but only 18 allowed to compete in the test event, some had to miss out. On this occasion that includes Barry Middleton.’
