Liverpool are hoping to use Harry Redknapp's pursuit of Loic Remy to their advantage by snapping up Jermain Defoe for 10million.
Redknapp was at Marseille's Ligue 1 clash against Lille on Sunday night to watch Tottenham's main target Remy score both goals in a 2-0 victory.
Defoe is already unsettled at his lack of starts this season, thanks to the form of Emmanuel Adebayor, and should Remy be prised away from l'OM, the England striker would find himself further down the pecking order at White Hart Lane.
