Liverpool 5 Oldham 1: Carroll breaks duck as Reds survive early scare
Andy Carroll finally scored for Liverpool as they bounced back from the shock of conceding first against League One Oldham to emerge triumphant from their FA Cup third round tie.
Robbie Simpson gave the Latics the lead just before the half hour mark with a 25-yard wonderstrike that stunned the Kop. But Liverpool's response was swift. Craig Bellamy equalised within two minutes and captain Steven Gerrard gave the Reds the lead from the penalty spot just before half-time.
Jonjo Shelvey put the result beyond doubt midway through the second half before Carroll struck a powerful strike from the edge of the box within a minute of coming off the bench to add gloss to the scoreline. Stewart Downing made it five in injury time.
