Ruddy for England: Norwich keeper looking for spot on plane to Euro 2012
John Ruddy’s excellent form for Norwich has led to whispers of an England call-up. But if Fabio Capello does call up the Norwich goalkeeper, there could be a problem – Ruddy is getting married the week before Euro 2012.
The 25-year-old has played very well all season and was at his best in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea, Norwich’s first clean sheet of the season.
He made an excellent stop to deny Fernando Torres in the first half and then kept out Juan Mata after the break when the Spaniard was through on goal.

THREE THINGS VILLAS-BOAS NEEDS TO DO IN MAJORCA
1) Reassure Fernando Torres
His confidence looks shattered but his movement is still good. If one goal goes in, surely more will follow.
2) Get Cahill up to speed
Saturday was too soon for the former Bolton man but his grit and consistency will calm a back four who look nervous whenever David Luiz has the balll.
3) Make sure Essien is fit
The Ghanaian powerhouse is such an imposing figure and Chelsea looked better with him on as a sub. Chelsea need him to be starting games again.
And with David Stockdale likely to lose his place in goal at Fulham to the returning Mark Schwarzer in the coming weeks, Ruddy could provide able back-up to Joe Hart – the only problem being the wedding.
‘It’s nice to be linked with England but I know that only happens if I’m playing well with Norwich,’ said Ruddy. ‘That’s the main thing and like I say I’ ve got my wedding on June 2, so we’ll see what happens. It would obviously be a great honour for me and my family to get in the squad.’
‘If I get the call, I’ll ask the missus. I’m sure I can get a the day off and take her on holiday to Poland and Ukraine – kill two birds with one stone.’
Ruddy’s clean sheet obviously benefited his team but will also be a help to Help The Heroes, who he is donating he bonus too.
‘My glove sponsors give me a 200 bonus for every clean sheet, which goes straight to Help The Heroes.

‘I’ve got a military background in my family. My dad was in the army and my granddad was in the RAF and so were my uncles and my cousin’s just come out of the RAF. My best friend is in the Army and I’m fortunate to be in a position to be able to help.
‘My best friend is Corporal Phil Wright, he’s in England but he’s going back out in March to Afghanistan. So he’s going to miss my stag do in May.
