Jenson Button said sorry after McLaren’s chances were flushed away in a rain-interrupted Malaysian Grand Prix on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Briton finished in 14th and almost 80 seconds behind winner Fernando Alonso after colliding with the HRT of Narain Karthikeyan, losing the right end of his front wing.

‘It was totally my fault,’ said Button. ‘I blew what could have been some good points and I have to say sorry to the team.’

A storm held up the race for 51 minutes before Button’s McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton was forced to settle for third place, despite starting in pole position, after two poor pit-stops.
